PVES School Community,

I trust that your family enjoyed a safe, restful, and blessed holiday season. Our faculty and staff are excited to welcome our students back on Monday, January 6th. The end of the second nine week grading period is Tuesday, January 14th. This will mark the actual halfway point of the 2019-2020 school year! We have so much to accomplish and look forward to working with our school community to achieve our goals.

Again, we encourage all parents to stay connected via SeeSaw. Parents should also be signed up for Parent Portal to access real time grades and attendance information. Help us to ensure that your child is provided a positive and structured routine at home that enables the child to be prepared to do his or her best at school. We would also encourage our families to participate in upcoming school and PTSO events. Remain an active participant in your child's education!

Though we have yet to experience any inclement weather in our area, it is important to again remind everyone that Anderson One is one of a handful of districts in South Carolina approved for eLearning Days (up to three). eLearning Days will take place on inclement weather days that prevent school from being open. Information will be shared through the district and school websites, via social media, automated messaging calls, and local media outlets. Local news stations will announce that Anderson School District One will be holding an eLearning day. Please refer to our eLearning website for details including a FAQ section.

Visitors to our campus will see evidence of the construction work that is set to begin this month on our new wing. This addition will be completed by the start of the 2020-2021 school year. The construction will limit the space we can use on our playground as well as space in our back parking lot. We are working with our teachers to provide alternate areas for recess. However, due to loss of parking in the back lot, it is extremely important that only parents who have students at PVES use our front parking lot for arrival or dismissal each day. Parents with middle and high school students only should utilize those routes and procedures to drop off and pick up students. We will keep everyone posted on the progress of our construction project.

The official end of the second nine week grading period is Tuesday, January 14th. Report cards will be sent home on Thursday, January 23rd. Parents are reminded that there are two copies of the report card that are sent home. The plain white copy should be signed and sent back to school.

• Friday, January 10th is PVES "Spirit Day" - Students are encouraged to wear House shirts/colors.
• Papa John's "Dollars for Dough" Spirit Nights - January 14th & 15th. Send your receipts to school.
• PVES Skate Night - January 23rd from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Roller Time Family Skate Center in Piedmont. Theme is "crazy hair" and admission is just $4.00.

Friday, January 17th is a teacher work day. Monday, January 20th is MLK Day. There is no school for students on these days. Enjoy the long weekend!

Class pictures will be taken on Tuesday, January 28th in the morning. Ordering information will be disseminated at a later date. Our children often love purchasing a class picture so please consider doing so!

Flyers regarding PVES Running Club will be sent home soon. These are due returned by Friday, January 24th. The first running club meeting is Monday, February 3rd from 2:45 - 4:00 P.M. and are held on Mondays leading up to the Hero 5K Race on March 21st. Running Club is offered for 4th and 5th graders only who can secure transportation after school.

We are excited to announce that our PVES Talent Show will be held at Powdersville High School on Thursday, January 30th from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Information about ticket sales will be sent home later this month. Talent Show tryouts will take place after school January 6th - 10th at the time provided to students who signed up (3rd grade - Tuesday, 4th grade - Wednesday, 5th grade - Thursday).

• PVES Ambassadors meet on Monday, January 13th after school.
• Good News Club starts back on Tuesday, January 14th after school.
• Robotics Club meets on Thursday, January 16th and Thursday, January 30th after school.
• Team 5 PVES Patrols begin on Tuesday, January 21st.
• School Improvement Council (SIC) meets on Friday, January 31st at 7:25 A.M. in the media center.
• We will start back fourth grade chorus on Tuesday, January 14th and fifth grade chorus on Thursday, January 16th. Also due to the talent show, we will not have chorus practice on January 28th or January 30th. This will affect fourth grade on the 28th and fifth grade on the 30th.
