MVLA Magazine
November 2021
MVLA Community,
I hope this message finds you and your family well. It has been a joy for me to visit our campuses and see our students actively engaged in classrooms, on the field, on the stage, and celebrating Homecoming, Halloween, and Dia de los Muertos.
This month's MVLA Magazine includes a link to a recent webinar with recruiters from colleges and universities across the country, discussing the continued impact of COVID 19 on the admission process. This impact, coupled with changes to standardized testing requirements, has made the application process more holistic and the process more dependent on other factors.
Within this edition, you will meet Jennifer Lewis, MVLA's Teacher of the Year, recently named a 2021 County Teacher of the Year! Jennifer has been teaching for 18 years, eight of which have been here at MVLA. She currently teaches at Alta Vista Continuation High School. You'll read more below.
We are also celebrating our Students of the Month. Each month, during our Board of Education meeting, we celebrate our students' unique and significant work. Our students are creative, innovative, thoughtful, and are solving real-world problems.
Special thanks to our MVLA Foundation, who are partners in bringing us the Speaker Series. Registration for this month's session with Colin Seale is below, along with resources from past speakers.
Thank you as well to our broader MVLA community for partnering with us to make this season's activities so memorable and meaningful.
Sincerely,
Nellie Meyer
Superintendent

Homecoming activities at Los Altos High School have included themed dress-up days, such as Sleeping Beauty Day (wear pajamas, onesies, and slippers), Intergalatic Day (wear neon, metallic, and sparkly things) and Enchanted Forest Day (wear animal print, camouflage, or green). Each day included an associated lunchtime activity. The annual homecoming rally was a big hit. We can't wait to see photos from today's Homecoming Parade! Go Talons!
All kinds of awesome costumes have been on display this week at MVHS as well. The (awesome) staff at the Tutorial Center coordinated a costume event - and there was no shortage of creativity on display! Check out the online photo album here!
