Amy Belle Elementary
Principal's Corner
Thank you for a great 22-23 school year! Our students and staff have accomplished so much over the course of the year. Please make sure that you are having your students continue to read over the summer. If you can find some natural opportunities for them to write whether it is a fun made up story or a journal of a vacation you took, it is great for them to continue to use their writing skills over the break. Of course, we want everyone to have fun and find time to relax! Spend time outdoors enjoying the summer weather and being active! We will see you back at the end of August for our Open House Meet and Greet. To our 5th graders, we will miss you next year. Good luck at KMS! Thank you as always for partnering with us to provide quality educational opportunities for our students.

Counselor's Corner
The end of the school year is a wonderful time to reflect on the growth that each of our students has made. A few moments have recently brought a swell of pride to me as your School Counselor. I have seen fourth-grade girls resolve conflicts independently and respectfully by using "I messages" about sticky friendship issues, I have seen students who have had BIG fears, be able to successfully conquer them, and first graders start to take accountability for their actions. I have witnessed countless acts of kindness and inclusion, and have seen parents volunteering their time at Walking Wildcats to help our students achieve a collective goal of "Walking to Florida." It has been a pleasure to see many of the lessons that they have learned in Guidance classes along with the character traits that our school has focused on put into action. I am hopeful you will also see many examples of great character and problem solving at home during the summer months.
The freedom and flexibility of the summer schedule can also bring about a lot of 'downtime' for children, which can easily lead to too much screen time. I once heard that screen time can be like planning a well-rounded diet. There are vegetables (math games) and candy (video games). It is important to have a 'balanced diet' of screen time, nutrition, exercise as well as social connection and time in nature to keep our children's growing minds and bodies strong and healthy. I will provide a few links to some helpful articles and resources for creating limits and controls around screen time.

- Common Sense Media (This website provides reviews of movies, video games and many suggestions for screen time controls)
Wishing you all a safe summer full of fun, adventure, relaxation, and quality family time!
