The GLOBE Academy was featured in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution over the weekend, with an article about our swim team and athletics program at UC. GLOBE would like to wish the team the very best of luck when they compete in the MAAC Conference Championships this Saturday at Georgia Tech!

Upper Campus:

It's Group Photo Day at UC tomorrow!

All group photos (except fall and spring sports teams) will be taken tomorrow, January 19. Musical groups are scheduled in the morning and athletics in the afternoon. Basketball players should bring uniforms and change for pictures. Swimmers please wear your hoodies for the team picture.

Lunar New Year

On January 27 our Lunar New Year performance at UC for Mandarin track families will take place from 1:30pm to 2:30pm. Spirit Wear will also be on sale. Parking for UC families will be across the road at Church in Atlanta (2345 Shallowford Rd NE) only. Please do not try and park at GLOBE, since there will be students at recess.

Lower Campus:

Black History Month (BHM) Door Decorations

The PTCC BHM Committee is looking for volunteers to decorate one (or more) LC classroom doors. Please click here if you’d like to help.

Morning Carpool
A friendly reminder that you should only be making a left-hand turn into the LC driveway. The only exception is for families that won the “carpool flag” at last spring’s auction.
Please ensure your child(ren) is ready to exit the vehicle as soon as it stops along the curb. We also ask that the driver (and any other passengers) remain in the vehicle. Thank you for your effort in helping us expedite the drop-off process.

Community Circle

The second Community Circle will take place this Friday. The purpose of Community Circle is to bring all LC students together to sing, share, and build community. Be sure to ask your children about it at the end of their school day.

Connections

We will begin a basketball unit at LC this week, along with health classes on Friday.

Lunar New Year

On January 27, our Lunar New Year performance at LC for Mandarin track families will take place from 9am to 10am. Spirit Wear will also be on sale.

Upcoming coffee talk

January 31, 8:30am at LC, STAMP (Standards-based Measurement of Proficiency) testing. Presented by Sandra Daniel.

Tour dates

Tours at Lower Campus are now full. We still have two tour dates available at Upper Campus, on January 26 and February 7, 2023. Click here to register.

Yard signs

Yard signs are still available. If you are interested in picking one up, please register here to do so. The signs are available for pick-up from the front office at LC and UC.

Will your student return for the 2023-2024 school year?

Last week, GLOBE sent out an email requesting that current GLOBE families complete the "Intent to Return" form. If you have not yet completed the form, click here to view, complete and submit. You will receive a Google confirmation after submitting the document. If further information or clarification is needed, you will be contacted. Thank you to everyone who has already completed the form.

Please be advised, we must receive your response by 12pm, Friday, February 3, 2023. Also, if you have an 8th grade student who is graduating, but plan to enter his/her/their sibling in the lottery, you must also complete this form. 8th grade students with no siblings entering into our lottery should not complete this form.

Spirit Night at Panda Express

Join us for January’s GLOBE Spirit Night on Wednesday, January 25, at the Panda Express located at 4004 Lavista Road, Tucker (Northlake area). Stop in anytime that day and a portion of the sales will go to The GLOBE Academy PTCC! Just bring a printout of the flyer or show it to a staff member on your smartphone. Target Language Book Fair for spring 2023

We would like to be able to have a mini book fair with French, Mandarin, and Spanish books in the spring. To make this happen, we need someone who will lead this effort. If you are interested in taking this on, please email PTCC by January 23.

Winter sports - Basketball, swimming and cheerleading

Team pictures will be taken at UC on Thursday, January 19. Basketball players should bring uniforms and change for pictures. Swimmers wear your hoodies for the team picture.

Spring sports try-out dates

Boys Tennis - February 6 and 7 at Echo Ridge Tennis Center, 3:30pm–5:30pm

Girls Tennis - February 8 at Echo Ridge Tennis Center, 3:30pm–5:30pm

Girls Soccer - February 7 and 8 at Avondale YMCA Fields, 4:15pm–5:30pm

Flag Football - February 8 at Lower Campus Field, 3:45pm–5:15pm. Participants must have a mouthguard.

Spring sports practice days (for planning purposes)

Boys Tennis - Mondays and Tuesdays at Echo Ridge Tennis Center, 3:30pm–5:30pm

Girls Tennis - Wednesdays at Echo Ridge Tennis Center, 3:30pm–5:30pm

Girls Soccer - Tuesdays and Wednesdays at Avondale YMCA and Silverbacks, 4:15pm–5:30pm

Flag Football - Wednesdays at Lower Campus Playground Field or Silverbacks, 3:45pm–5:15pm.

Basketball teams update

Both the boys and girls basketball teams defeated Atlanta International School (AIS) last week. The boys score was 46-19 and highlights included Aidan Brown leading the team with 18 points, while Abdylaye 'controlled the glass' with 12 rebounds.

The girls team score was 45-27. Gabriella Benjamin scored her personal best with 28 points. Gabby Brent contributed 8 points along with good defense. Gabriella Benjamin and Lila Burrow were top rebounders. The girls are 4-1 in the conference and playing well.

The B Team is also 4-1 in the conference, while the C Team is undefeated (5-0).

Swim team

Swimming (3-0) will compete in the MAAC Conference Championships this Saturday at Georgia Tech, starting at 11:30am. Swimmers should arrive at 10:30am.

GLOBE Summer Camp will take place during the weeks of June 12, June 19 and June 26.
