Founders Memorial School News: October 30, 2023
From the Principal
Dear FMS Families,
We have enjoyed welcoming families into the school for conferences, which have begun. Many families will meet with teachers through this week. If you haven’t signed up for a conference, please contact your child’s teacher. This is an important way to share information about what is happening in school, and partner with our families in student growth. We look forward to seeing you soon!
If you have time on Thursday evening or Friday during the day, please check out our “lost and found” display in the lobby. We have many lost articles of clothing that we would love to return to their owners!
As always, please reach out with any questions.
Sincerely,
Sara Jablonski
FMS Principal
School Pictures and Retakes
We had our school picture day on October 18th. Retakes will take place on Thursday, November 16th. If your student missed picture day, be sure they are ready for retakes, which will take place in the morning.
Behavior Referral Communication
This year, we have launched a new system of family communication related to unexpected behaviors at school. This is a way to inform families of behavior referrals that take place during the school day or on the bus. You will receive a paper form (see below) with a summary of the incident. This provides an opportunity to discuss what took place at school. Please return the top portion of this form after a conversation with your child. Thank you for your partnership with this!
Halloween Reminder
We know that many families choose to celebrate Halloween and that it is coming up on Tuesday, 10/31. Please remember that students are not allowed to wear costumes to school as it causes a distraction from learning. Please also refrain from sending your student to school with candy. Thank you for your partnership in supporting this.
PTO Dinner for Educators: November 2nd
Hello Families!
The Essex Town PTO is putting together a donated dinner to support our amazing educators on their long conference night on November 2nd. Click the link and sign up to bring an item or volunteer to help. There are lots of ways to participate so be sure to look over them all!
Email us with any questions at pto@ewsd.org
Band and Orchestra Pickup Reminders
Band and Orchestra ensemble rehearsals take place after school. Dismissal is starting to run smoothly! Please remember that Band and Orchestra end at 3:30. If you are picking up your child, please be sure you arrive on time for pickup.
Families and caregivers who are picking up need to park in a designated parking area. See the image for more details. Please do not park in the bus lane in the front of the school. This interferes with our bus transportation for FMS and EMS during the second bus run.
Health Office News
Tick Prevention
Tick checks are one of the ways you can prevent Lyme disease and other infections spread by ticks. Check your entire body, especially:
head and hair
in and around the ears
under the arms
around the chest
back (use a mirror or ask for help)
waist
belly button
around the groin
legs and behind the knees
between the toes
Don't forget to also check your pets!
What to look for?
Feel for bumps and look for tiny dark spots. Look carefully, most ticks are very small!
Found a tick? Remove it immediately to reduce the risk of infection.
More information on tick prevention and a tool to assist in the removal of ticks and seeking healthcare, if appropriate, after a tick bite can be found at: Prevent Tick Bites & Tickborne Diseases | Vermont Department of Health
