Reedy High School | Week of August 29, 2021
"Pride Perspective with Mr. Z"
Dear Reedy Lion Families,
We are excited to officially unveil our new campus Twitter handle of @ReedyLions. Everyone who was following our previous campus Twitter handle of @RHSFrisco has already been migrated over to @ReedyLions. If you aren't following our campus on Twitter, please take a minute and do it today! It's a great way to stay connected to what is going on at Reedy High School!
I strongly encourage all RHS parents to be checking on their student(s) activities and learning experiences through Canvas. More information provided HERE for how to access your student(s) classes in Canvas with a parent login.
The Week of August 30 marks the return of Mandatory Advisory Period at Reedy High School. Our RHS teachers are asked to identify if their students need additional assistance, outside of their class period, mastering a standard or skill. In these instances, students are assigned to a Mandatory Advisory Period by their teacher and are required to attend this time for additional intervention on a designated day. Advisory Period occurs each day of the week from 12:15-12:45. When a student is assigned to a Mandatory Advisory Period by one of their teachers, the student and parent will receive an email communicating the assigned date for this support session.
In addition, after a pilot experience last Spring, we will be implementing our Lion Lunch campus support structure for all students and content areas starting this week. If students are not completing and submitting assignments/activities as part of their class experiences, our RHS teachers will be assigning these individuals to Lion Lunch. Students assigned to Lion Lunch will be required to report to a designated location in the Cafe to have a "working lunch" opportunity to complete the outstanding work while eating lunch. When a student is assigned to Lion Lunch by one of their teachers, the student and parent will receive an email communicating the assignment to a designated week. Students assigned to Lion Lunch will be required to continue attending subsequent days of Lion Lunch until all assignments/activities have been completed.
A reminder, we will be hosting the first "Parents in the Pride" Monthly Forum for 2021-2022 on Tuesday - August 31st from 1:00-1:30 in the RHS Auditorium. This will provide RHS parents an opportunity to come and hear about campus initiatives with Mr. Z, along with being able to address questions. Please use this FORM to submit any questions/topics you would like to learn more about during our conversation.
REMINDER: Friday September 3rd and Monday September 6th are Student Holidays for all FISD campuses.
Roar Lions Roar!

Covid Testing & Quarantine Protocols (Including At-Home Testing)
Please review the following Covid testing and quarantine protocols, including at-home testing:
- ABSENCE NOTES: An absence note containing your student's FIRST and LAST NAME (and student ID, if possible) must be submitted for each day a student is out (or you may list all dates in one submission) by using the "Report an Absence" button at the top, right corner on the RHS homepage or by sending an email to RHSAttendance.org. All doctor notes (test results can serve in lieu of a doctor's note) must also be uploaded in the "Report an Absence" button or sent to RHSAttendance.org.
- CLOSE CONTACT: If you suspect or are informed that your student is a close contact of a positive Covid case, but your student is symptom free, they are not required to quarantine at home, but may do so if desired by the parent to watch them for signs and symptoms. If you choose to quarantine your student, reach out to the RHS Attendance Clerk, Ms. Oliva James, at RHSAttendance@friscoisd.org to make her aware that your student is quarantining specifically for a positive close contact with no symptoms.
- SYMPTOMATIC: If your student is suffering from symptoms that you suspect are Covid related, they will need to quarantine for ten (10) full days after the start of symptoms or be tested for Covid to determine when they may return to campus. A copy of the test results must be emailed to the school nurse, Sara Thomas, at thomassa@friscoisd.org.
- NEGATIVE RESULT: A student may return to campus if they are feeling better and have had no fever for 24 hours. A negative test result must be emailed to the nurse at thomassa@friscoisd.org.
- POSITIVE RESULT: Students must complete the full ten (10) days of quarantine, and return on their designated day. Quarantine begins on the day after symptoms begin and the student may return to campus on the 11th day after symptoms begin. A positive test result must be emailed to the nurse at thomassa@friscoisd.org.
- STUDENT ATHLETES/UIL MEMBER: If your student is an athlete or UIL club member who has tested positive, they will need a doctor's note upon return clearing them for normal activities.
- AT-HOME TESTING: At this time, FISD is not accepting results from the over-the-counter "Ellume" home Covid test, or any other home test. Your student would need to be retested by a Covid testing facility/clinic/doctor's office.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation regarding this safety matter. Should you have if you have any questions or concerns, please contact our nurse at 469-633-6408.
