I can't tell you how excited I was to be chosen to be the new superintendent of Tuscumbia Schools! Although I've only been on the job a few short weeks, this district has already made me feel like a part of the Pride, and I couldn't be prouder to be a Lion. Besides myself, we have a new building principal, Mrs. Tresa Maneval, and Mr. James Isom has moved from the teaching staff to the administrative staff as assistant principal/athletic director/transportation director. We also have several new teachers to introduce to you, and I plan to do that in the August 1st newsletter--so watch your email and our Facebook page.

For now, I wanted to give you some upcoming important dates, as well as a reminder of our current residency audit. I also want to invite you to call or email with questions or concerns, or just to introduce yourselves--I look forward to getting to know this community's families so I can better serve you, so please feel free to reach out.

Thursday, August 18: Open House, 5:30-7:00 p.m., come meet your teachers and the new administrators!

Monday, August 22: First day of school, classes begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 3:15 p.m.; first day of Jr. High basketball practice

This year's Back-to-School Fair and Open House will be separate events, as we try to make sure everyone has plenty of time and opportunity to get school supplies, have access to services provided during the Fair, and meet their teachers and the new administrative team during Open House. On Thursday, August 11, the Community Betterment will hold the Back-to-School Fair in the school cafeteria, and there will be booths with several community organizations providing services and information. We will also have enrollment packets available that night.

Open House will be on Thursday, August 18, and this will be an opportunity for students to meet their teachers, bring their supplies, and parents can turn in paperwork, including proof-of-residency required by the district for the residency audit.

We hope to see you at both events, and we look forward to kicking off the 2022-23 school year with you!

As a result of the bond issue passed by voters, the district has purchased the first of its new buses, a 65-passenger Bluebird. This will be bus #1, and it will be in service on the first day of school. We have another 53-passenger bus coming later in the year. Additional buses will be purchased in subsequent years to allow us to have our bus purchases on a rotation in the future. A big thank you to the community for the support you give to our schools!

The Miller County R-III School District is conducting a residency audit as per Section 167.020 (2), RSMo. In order to register a pupil in the district, the parent or legal guardian of the pupil shall provide proof of residency in the district. The term “residency” shall mean that a person both physically resides within a school district and is domiciled within that district. For the purposes of residency verification, the following documents will be accepted:

• Rental Contract
• Real Estate Contract signed by all parties
• Utilities Bill/Deposit Receipt
• Payroll Check, Driver’s License, or other employment documents.

Documentation must be received prior to the first day of school for the student to attend. Non-resident students must have tuition paid or a signed payment plan on file in the superintendent's office prior to the first day of school.
