What's Happening ?? !!

Dear Hawley Parents/Guardians,

Spring has sprung (or at least for a few days). Many things happening and many things to come. Things start to go quickly this time of year as we enter the final stretch.

Buckle up, keep your hands and feet in the car at all times, and stay seated as you read on to find out What's Happening at Hawley School.......

While many were enjoying some time off for vacation, there was important work occurring at Hawley. Our gym floor got a well needed make-over. It looks terrific. Also, the approved duct system was installed allowing our Multi-Purpose Room to be air conditioned. This will be a wonderful, huge cooling area for multiple classes/grade-levels to enjoy.

We strung together 3 days of warmth and sunshine. I asked teachers to find some time for an outside activity. And, they did.....

This will be the Hawley ART SHOW. Please come walk the halls and see the incredible artwork created by Hawley students. Drawings, paintings, pastels, chalks, sculpture and more....

While here at Hawley, visit all the other specials for fun activities: Play instruments in Music, read with a llama in the Library, play games in the Gym and enjoy a free Bar-B-Q courtesy of our Fathers Club.

Every 2 years or so the Earth Balloon lands at Hawley School. Students learn about our planet, not only from the outside but going inside as well. This is such a fun educational experience for our students. Please ask them about it......

The Father's Club sponsored a night of building and painting bird houses. This was a fun, hands-on activity in which parents and students worked together. No wires, electricity, batteries, internet required ;0)

Students and Parents volunteered to wash cars for this Fathers Club fundraiser. It was a great time all around. Thank you to those that volunteered their time and to all those that came down for the wash.

Believe it or not, shortly, we will begin the process of developing our class placements for the upcoming school year. This is an extremely complex process with grouping decisions being made by a number of factors and a number of staff members and hours of collaboration.

Although teachers and other staff have closely observed your child in the classroom/school environment, I understand that from a parent’s perspective, there may be information that you would like to share. With the exception of choosing a teacher, I invite you to write/call me with any information that you feel would be helpful in the placement of your child. If information comes in with a specific teacher request, it will not be noted nor filed.

If I feel that additional information is needed, I may give you a follow-up call. Placement conversations should be directed to me and NOT your child’s current classroom teacher. Sending information is optional and has a deadline of May 10, 2019.

• There will be many Field Trips happening this time of year. A reminder that since parking is sparse, we ask chaperones to park over at Caraluzzis. We thank you for your support.

• It was a tough winter with illness. Student absences for sickness, combined with some family trips, have parents nervous. I remind you that the letters you receive regarding absences are State mandated. Continue to check in with me if you have any questions, and know, that if I have real concerns about your child's attendance, I will call you.

• With some State and District testing occurring this time of year, please try to have students to school on time and avoid pulling them out early if possible. Do not send them in if they are not feeling well, make-ups are built into the schedule and we would like them testing at their best.
