Happy New Year GBHS Families!
I hope that each of you were able to enjoy a relaxing winter break with family and friends. I say this every year, but it seems like the two weeks go by too fast!
Looking ahead we are quickly closing in on the end of the first semester of the 2021-22 school year. At the high school, this means we are finishing up coursework and preparing for semester exams on January 19, 20 and 21. Please make sure you are encouraging your student(s) to communicate with their teachers directly about any concerns with assignments or grades as it is always best to be proactive before the semester comes to a close. It is also a great time to begin to prepare for semester exams. Teachers should begin to share with students what will be expected of them on the exam and preparing early will increase the likelihood of success while decreasing the stress and anxiety.
Thank you for your continued support and Go Bobcats!

EXPLANATION OF ATTENDANCE CONTRACTS
At Grand Blanc High School, we recognize that regular attendance in classes is vital to our student's learning success. Attendance in all classes is being recorded daily. If a student accumulates more than 10 absences in any course, they are in danger of losing credit for the course. An administrator will contact the parent/guardian to let them know that the student has received an Attendance Contract and in order for credit to be earned back, the student MUST complete the following:
1. Show a marked improvement in attendance, including no additional unexcused absences after the date of contact.
2. The student must complete all work and pass the course.
3. The student must write a letter of appeal and email/drop-off to their administrator.
At the end of the semester, if the student has met all the above requirements, Mr. Fray will read the appeal letter and consider reinstating credit. If the appeal for credit is denied, a score of 80% on the end of semester exam is the equivalent of earning a passing grade and constitutes a qualifying score to earn credit in the course.
Once an attendance contract has been issued, if the student accumulates more than 10 total absences in any other classes, they will automatically be placed on an attendance contract for those classes without further notice from an administrator. Make sure you are checking your student’s attendance on a regular basis.
Attendance Appeal letters for first semester are due 1/5/2021

NATIONAL SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM – SEAMLESS SUMMER OPTION LETTER TO HOUSEHOLDS
Dear Parent or Guardian:
We are pleased to inform you that Grand Blanc Community School District will be participating in the Seamless Summer Option as part of the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs for the School Year 2021-2022.
The GREAT NEWS is that ALL students enrolled at our school can receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at NO CHARGE to your household each day.
We still need your household to fill out and sign the Free and Reduced-Price Meal Application. This information is critical in determining the amount of money that our school receives from a variety of State and Federal supplemental programs like Title I A, At-risk (31a), Title II A, E-Rate, etc.
These supplemental programs have the potential to offer supports and services for our students including, but not limited to:
- Instructional supports (staff, supplies & materials, etc.)
- Non-instructional services (counseling, social work, health services, etc.)
- Professional Learning for staff
- Parent and Community engagement supplies and activities
- Technology
- Pandemic-EBT
We are asking that you please complete and submit it as soon as possible to ensure that additional funding for our school is available to meet the needs of our students. All information on the application submitted is confidential. Without your assistance in completing and returning the attached application, our school cannot maximize the use of available State and Federal funds.
If we can be of any further assistance, please contact us at Grand Blanc Dining Service
(810) 591-6675 or (810) 591-6928.
Sincerely,
Karen Smith, Director of Dining Service
