Corbett Grade School
November 2022
Corbett Grade School Principal, Michelle Dawkins
Dear Families,
This month, Corbett Grade School students and staff will have a school wide focus on gratitude. Gratitude is a simple way to help change one's perspective of the world. Learning to be grateful helps us appreciate the little things in life that we tend to take for granted, which brings about a deep feeling of satisfaction that fulfills and nourishes us. Practicing gratitude or reflecting on what you’re thankful for is an effective way to deal with life’s chaotic, stressful, and tense moments. Grateful people tend to sleep better, have lower stress levels, exercise more often, and eat healthier.
To begin our month, I am so grateful for such a warm and welcoming school community. Our students are working hard at becoming readers, writers, and mathematicians. I am thankful for their hard work and how well they persevere through daily challenges. I appreciate the dedicated adults that provide a safe place for our students to learn each and every day. Finally, I am grateful for their families that give us the opportunity to serve your children and provide support to our school.
Thought Exchange: What are you grateful for?

Corbett Grade School Progress Report Revision
Corbett School District is committed to rigorous performance and achievement standards for all students. Standards-based grading and reporting will allow us to more accurately and consistently monitor our students' progress on their continuum of learning. Revising our progress reports will help to provide a more specific tool to evaluate and report student progress in a way that is understandable to students and their families.
Please join us to preview the progress reports and to provide input on the new reporting system:
- Virtual meeting on Wednesday, November 8, at 5:30pm (meeting link to be sent out by your child's classroom teacher)
- In person meeting on Thursday, November 9, at 8:15am and 3:00pm in the grade school
Please contact Michelle Dawkins for any questions or concerns.

Holiday Assistance
The holidays are right around the corner, which for many, equates to greater financial strain. Costs are rising for food, presents and clothing. This leads to families trying to stretch their budgets to cover all of the necessities while trying to give their children an amazing holiday. If you are in need of assistance during this holiday season in the forms of presents for your children, food boxes, or new and/or gently used clothing, please contact Melissa Davis (Mdavis@corbett.k12.or.us or 503-261-4279) or Helen Leedom (Hleedom@corbett.k12.or.us) and they will contact you for more information.
All information received will be kept confidential.
