As we move into a new year, don't forget to take a moment to reflect on 2022.

What accomplishments can you celebrate? What tasks do you still need to work on? (Maybe it's that resolution you made this time last year - oops!) Who are the people in your life that can support you?

Remember that a new year is an opportunity to start fresh, to show ourselves and our children that we can always begin anew. Share your goals and resolutions with your students and help them create their own as well. Support one another on the journey and check in on occasion to see how it is going - and remember that together we can accomplish so much!

Did you know, that students who miss 10% of the school year are considered Truant - regardless of whether it is excused or not. That means, that if your student has been absent for 7 days so far this school year, they are technically truant. Students that have missed more than 10% of the school year so far (approx. 7 days) will be receiving calls home to discuss this concern with parents. We want to work with our families to ensure that when students are healthy, they should be at school. Please make sure that your student comes to school each day unless they are truly sick, such as fever, chills, continuous coughing, vomiting, or diarrhea. Time spent out of school is a missed opportunity for learning.

Ms. Leeper's 4th grade class took on a challenge to complete at least one act of kindness each day in the month of December. If students accomplished the task, they added a link to the chain - Congratulations!

To celebrate the holidays and the upcoming winter break, students and staff at SIC participated in a Spirit Week. We had so much fun!

After 23 years of teaching in Steger School District 194, Mrs. Rosa will be retiring. Mrs. Rosa has taught, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grades during her time in Steger. Her most memorable time was moving up from teaching 3rd grade to 4th grade with the same group of students! In her retirement, Mrs. Rosa plans to relocate to Colorado where she will spend time with her husband and twin daughters. Congratulations Mrs. Rosa and thank you for your dedication to the students of SD194. We will miss you!!

All students at SIC will be taking the NWEA MAP Winter Benchmark Test in Reading and in Math the week of January 17th, 2023. Students took the Fall Benchmark Test in September and were given a RIT Goal for the Winter Test. Those students that meet their RIT Goal in either Reading, Math, or both, will be invited to a Pizza Party! Please make sure your student has a good breakfast, is well rested, and on time/in attendance during MAP testing - THANK YOU!
