Gettys Middle: Weekly Newsletter
October 30 - November 3
Message from Mr. Nelson
Dear Gettys Families,
I hope that the long weekend was restful and spent doing things that bring you joy. We are going to make the most of this short week and the next two weeks before Thanksgiving break. Last week, I was so proud of four of our students who served as tour guides for aspiring teachers during the SDPC Bus Tour for current student teachers who are interested in teaching in Pickens County. Mason Avant, Anna Kate Sanders, Austin Leist, and Norah Sewell all did an excellent job representing our school and district and I'm looking forward to providing more opportunities for our student leaders to represent our school!
Have a great week,
Jacob Nelson
Principal, Gettys Middle School
Club Meetings This Week:
Club Spotlight: History Club
The Gettys Middle School History Club meets monthly, on the third Wednesday of each month. The history club is for students in grades 6-8 who have an interest in history. The club has had speakers ranging from the Chairman of the Pickens County Council to a genealogist researcher, to the Clemson University Historian. The History Club has been asked by the Easley Area Museum to curate an exhibit on the influence of the textile industry on the history of the city of Easley. The students will be working on this project this year.
On Wednesday October 18, School Board member and former Easley High School principal Betty Garrison treated the History Club of Gettys Middle School to a tour of our historical 80+ year old school building. We are grateful to Mrs. Garrison for sharing her time and knowledge!
Sports This Week:
November 2: Football vs R. Anderson @ Westside High 5:30
November 3: Cross Country teams will compete at the State Qualifier in Newberry
