Mountain View Weekly Update
September 4
Announcements & Updates
- Important information for all parents: Although Mountain View offers virtual instruction, Administration would like to clarify that in-seat students do not have the option to participate virtually if they are absent for personal reasons, such as vacations, athletic competitions, or other family matters. Further, in-seat students who are home ill will be marked absent and are not to participate in live classes. Specific concerns and situations should be communicated directly to the building principal, who has the discretion to determine if an exception should be made. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding.
- Please carefully review the contents of Dr. Morillo's email sent on September 3, as it contains specific information regarding the next scheduling phase (details specific to the MV schedule will be shared next week). Remember that if you would like to switch to all remote instruction, you must contact Mrs. Toth no later than Tuesday, September 8. Anyone choosing remote instruction at that time will remain virtual until the end of the first marking period.
- Another friendly reminder that the daily COVID screening must be completed by 8:00 a.m. for all in-seat students, regardless of whether they attend in the morning or afternoon. Beginning next week, Administration will be contacting those who consistently forget to complete this task, which is mandatory if your child wishes to attend school in-person. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.
- The 2019-2020 Yearbooks have finally arrived. Students on virtual instruction who ordered one should contact the Main office for pick up. Extra copies are available for purchase; the cost is $27.00, and checks should be made out to Mountain View School.
- Room parents wanted! If you are interested in helping to plan grade-level events throughout the year, please contact Mrs. Paone at bethnsam@gmail.com.
- If you have not already done so, please download the Mendham Borough School District mobile app to access important information, such as the Daily Bulletin, from your mobile device. Note that extracurricular schedules will be posted to Mountain View's events calendar which is accessible from both the website and app.
A message from the Health Office
The Bernards Health Department has alerted local districts that the risk of exposure to COVID may be higher with the college students being sent home or visiting for the Labor Day weekend. Please be advised that if a family member has a positive COVID test, all members of the household who had contact with the positive individual may be required to quarantine for up to 24 days.
Please contact your School Nurse for questions or the Bernards Health Department when school is not in session.Update from Mrs. Lanka
Today in Advisory, students spent time getting to know one another and their cohort teacher better by completing a "Getting to Know Me" poster. Next Friday, some Advisories may choose to participate in a gallery walk to view each others' posters and determine what they have in common and what makes their group unique. In the spirit of friendly competition, others may engage in a "gameshow" Q&A to see who can remember the most about their classmates' families, pets, hopes, goals, positive attributes, and favorites (foods, songs, hobbies, etc.). Engaging in these activities allows students to continue to build rapport with one another and practice important social skills - both virtually and in-person - which leads to deeper and more meaningful relationships with others.
On another note, a colleague (Mrs. Ascione) recently shared this amazing 13-minute TedTalk with me entitled "Teens, Technology and Transformation" by Dr. Suzy Cox. I appreciated both Dr. Cox's sense of humor and all the amazing "tidbits" she offered about the developmental challenges faced by adolescents. I hope it helps you pause and reflect (as it did me!) on this tender age we are all so lucky to mentor and celebrate in middle school.
