Westwood PD and Me!
On your mark, get set ... Fun Run!
The Brookside Fun Run, a fundraiser in which families gather pledges to help support Brookside School, will be lining up at the starting blocks on November 15! Instead of selling items, each student gets a pledge page (that his or her parent sets up and manages through Boosterthon). Parents have the ability to sign up siblings on one account. Most students will complete 30-35 laps or fitness challenges at the Fun Run event. While this may sound like a lot, the course size is set to be appropriate for elementary school students. They do not run each lap; in some laps, they dance, hop, walk, and more.
All students can participate in the Fun Run, regardless of whether or not they received any pledges. Prized are awarded for hitting pledge goals and can be found on the pledge dashboard after students have registered online at FunRun.com.
Brookside Girls inspired to Run, Celebrate Success
This fall season, third-grade teacher Michelle Bellifemine, Assistant Principal Christina Scaduto, and parents Andrea Peck and Jamie Canavan volunteered to bring Girls on the Run (GOTR) to Brookside School. GOTR is an amazing program for girls in grades 3-5 that inspires girls to recognize their inner strengths and celebrate what makes them one of a kind. As trained coaches, the school's adult volunteers lead Brookside’s small team through curricula that included dynamic discussions, activities, and running games. Over the course of the ten-week program, our “girls on the run” developed essential skills to help them navigate their worlds and establish a lifetime appreciation for health and fitness. The program culminates with girls positively impacting their communities through a service project and being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K event.
If you are interested in running the GOTR NJ North Fall 5K or supporting and cheering our girls on the sidelines, all are welcome and encouraged to join us. The 5K will take place on Sunday, November 17, at the Sussex County Fairgrounds in Augusta, N.J. This link will provide important registration information for the race. Have questions? You may reach Ms. Bellifemine by email at Michelle.Bellifemine@wwrsd.org.
In-School Health Screenings
Health screening and referral programs can address student health issues that may impact both health and learning and may indicate the need for further evaluations.
I will be screening your child's vision, hearing, blood pressure, height, weight, and calculating their BMI.
No news is good news; however, if you receive a letter via email/mail, it means that follow up with your medical provider is necessary. Please respond with the findings from your medical provider, so I may continue to keep your child's health record up to date. Together, we ensure that identified health problems are addressed.
2020-2021 Pre-registration Begins Soon
The Westwood Regional School District will open online Kindergarten registration for the 2020‑2021 school year on Tuesday, December 3, 2019. This is a pre-registration only; students will not be considered enrolled until parents/ guardians submit the required documentation at an in-person registration appointment.
Be aware that your child must reside in the Borough of Westwood or Township of Washington and be five (5) years old on or before October 1, 2020, to enter Kindergarten next September. For more information, click here.
