Summer Update - August 18, 2023

PRINCIPAL UPDATE

WELCOME to those of you who are new to Northeast and WELCOME BACK to those returning! We hope you all had a wonderful summer spent relaxing and making memories with your family and friends. We are excited for the new school year and look forward to seeing you all very soon.

Teacher assignments are being sent out at 4:00pm this afternoon to families of students entering Grades 1 - 5. If you do not receive your child's teacher assignment, please reach out to Mrs. Tenaglia (MaryEllenTenaglia@walthampublicschools.org) or Miss McAvoy (KellyMcAvoy@walthampublicschools.org). We will get back to you by Monday.

On Thursday, August 24th, we will be having a "Back to School Picnic" from 3:30 - 5:00pm out in front of the school next to the basketball courts. Be sure to bring picnic blankets, snacks, drinks, etc. This is a time to meet other families, let children meet and play with other children and kick off the new school year together. Mrs. Tenaglia and Miss McAvoy will be there and some teachers may stop by! We hope to see you there!

Be on the lookout for Waltham School Bus Routes to be shared by WPS Transportation next week! It is important to look at the bus routes, bus stops and bus numbers carefully, as they do change from year to year.

We will send another update at the end of next week with information about the first week of school!

Thursday, August 24 - Back to School Picnic 3:30-5:00pm on the field next to the basketball court. Bring your own picnic blankets, snacks and drinks. Play on the playground with friends. Meet new friends and some staff members who are able to stop by.

NEW STAFF AT NORTHEAST

Please join us in welcoming some new staff members to Northeast!

Mrs. Stacy Kress will be our new Literacy Coach/Reading Specialist. Mrs. Kress is replacing Mrs. Gershon, who retired in June.

Mrs. Lisa Johnson-Bechtel is our new School Adjustment Counselor. Mrs. Johnson-Bechtel is replacing Mrs. Toochin, who left in June to pursue a private practice.

Mr. Brett Torres is a new First Grade Teacher. Mr. Torres is replacing Mrs. Milligan, who is home spending time with her twins.

Miss Sara Fagan is a new Integrated PreK Teacher. Miss Sara is replacing Miss Krystal, who left Northeast to work closer to home and to her family.

Ms. Amy Bozak is a new Connections Teacher who will be working with PreK. Ms. Bozak is replacing Mrs. Felicia McCarthy, who is home spending time with her family and will return to Northeast later in the school year to provide support in our Connections Program.

Ms. Tiffany Martinez is a new Paraprofessional in our Connections Program.

Miss Adriana DiGiorgio is a new Paraprofessional in our Connections Program.

Miss Nicole O'Brien is a new LPN hired by the district to work alongside Nurse Lynda in the Northeast Nurse's Office.

🧮 SUMMER MATH PACKETS

The Math Department has created summer math packets for students entering Grades 1 through 5.

🍎 HEALTHY WALTHAM FOOD PANTRY

The Healthy Waltham Food Pantry is walk-up only at our new location at 5 Cherry Street – the parking lot at the Fitch School in Waltham, MA. Our new hours will be from 2pm-5pm. We will have a variety of food for families to choose from, as well as some new items.

Where to park: Street parking only.

Registration: Please register in person at the pantry.

Food Pantry Donations: If you would like to make food donations of any kind, please contact us via contact us form on this website. No deliveries will be accepted at our mailing address without prior contact and coordination.
