Mr. Posick's weekly email

As we look ahead to next week, there are three things to put on your calendar. The first is arena style conferences on Thursday, March 5th. 5th grade will occur in the 5th grade classrooms, 6th grade will occur in the 6th grade classrooms, and 7th and 8th grade will occur in the gym.

The second is our half day on Friday, March 6th. Students will be released at noon that day.

The third is our upcoming concerts on Tuesday, March 10th. The Choirs will perform at 5:30PM and the Bands will perform at 7:15PM. The concerts are held in our gym.

I hope to see you at the conferences and the concerts.

Our Merton PTO is amazing, and whether you know it or not, you are all a part of our Merton PTO. That means that you're amazing, too. Your support in time, talents, and funding are truly incredible. The next big PTO event is Trivia Night on Saturday, March 7th. Here are more specifics for our Trivia Night. Admission tickets are now on sale but limited. Similar to last year, this is a two step process.

1. Download the Handbid App and search for Merton Schools Trivia Night 2020. Purchase your admission ticket ($60) and select your meal choice. By doing this, you’ll be registered to bid on the fantastic auction items when the auction goes live.
2. Use the SignUp link to reserve your spot at a table: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090449ACAE2CA4F85-seating. For those looking to meet new Merton Families, there are 3 Merton Mingle tables available.

Our 5th graders recently began their "Making an Impact Project". Students pick an organization to support and work to connect with these organizations to find out how they can give back. Here is a link to one example of a project with a letter from Brooke, Natalie, and Kyla of a project. They chose the Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) organization. Here is a link to the BBBS wish list if you'd like to support them. Their teachers and I are so proud of their efforts, and you should be, too!

This is always a great event that showcases our students' love of art. Please see the flyer below for more information. We hope to see you there!

Merton Intermediate School will be hosting a half day career event on Friday, April 24, 2020. The event will take place between 8:30 - 11:30 at Merton Intermediate School. 5th through 8th grade students will participate in the event. We are seeking professionals to participate in either of the following options that day:

1. Speaking to students during 25 minute sessions about your career and highlighting the opportunities of your career field or company

2. Conducting Mock-Interviews with 6th - 8th grade students using provided questions.

We are hoping to give students an opportunity to explore a wide variety of career fields, so please consider sharing your time and expertise with our students!

The Student Senate is once again sponsoring a carnival for 4K-4th grade students. Admission is free but there are tickets for sale for games and food. Here is the link to purchase the tickets. Please see the flyer below for more information.

If you are interested in sporting some Merton socks, please let me know. The socks are $15 a pair and look pretty cool. We'll take cash or checks made out to MertonSchool. Check them out below!

I know that this is the fourth week in a row that I've had this story in our smore, but it seems that the number of students home sick has increased, so here it is again.

We have gotten into the season of illnesses and trips. When your child is absent for either reason, please remind your child to check Skyward or Google Classroom for any learning they might be able to do while they aren't at school. The learning at school will continue! Our teachers will give time to complete assignments and to take assessments once they return, but if your child can work to keep up with the learning while they are absent, that would be great!
