June 11, 2022 #30
GOOD MORNING NECP FAMILIES!
Good morning - As I sit here drinking my coffee I am reflecting on the year and can not believe this is my 30th newsletter! WOW! I can not believe it is June and I can not believe I am in my 30s! HA! I do apologize for this not going out yesterday; I prefer the Friday newsletter but we are in our busiest time of the year with all of our meetings that there was not a free moment.
There is quite a bit going on this coming week at NECP - celebration days are being scheduled so please make sure you know when your student's day is from your teacher! Photo day was a smashing success! We were out under the tree at NECP....I am hopeful this backdrop is quite beautiful! I saw many smiling children doing the photo day and can not wait to see the proofs!
We have 9 days left of school at NECP with our last day being Thursday, June 23rd. That is a full school day. There is no school for NECP on Friday, June 24th although that is a half day for NPS upper grades. *Also do not forget we are off on Monday, June 20th for Juneteenth.
Have a great summery weekend and see you all on Monday! I look forward to trying to make it out to as many celebrations as I can.
~Kathleen

COVID-19 INFORMATION
NECP had 4 new Covid-19 cases during the week of 6/6/22-6/10/22. We wish them a speedy recovery! If you have not yet read district weekly news, there it was stated, "Given the increase in cases in our community, the Newton Public Schools STRONGLY recommends students and staff wear a mask. A well-fitting mask is very effective in reducing the transmission of COVID."
Please remember to opt-in for the new weekly at-home rapid antigen testing. If you do not have Aspen family access please email aspen@newton.k12.ma.us and ask for your family portal login and password. We will be distributing tests this week. Additionally, we will distribute tests for anyone attending our Extended School Year (ESY) who has opted-in during the first days of ESY. For ESY we will do one distribution so families who have opted-in will receive 3 boxes (6 tests).
- Access the Opt-in form through Aspen parent/guardian account: Aspen
- Follow these instructions once you are logged into Aspen
- An at-home rapid antigen tests kit will be distributed at school every other week. Each kit will contain two tests.
- NPS recommends that all families conduct a rapid test on TUESDAY of each week.
- Here are printed instructions (link) for conducting the test at home. Here is a video tutorial (link) on conducting the test. Translations are included.
- Only positive results need to be reported to the school. You will complete this form (link) to report a positive result. Nurses will provide follow up information to families, including the date for return to school, following a positive test.
In addition to the weekly at-home rapid antigen testing program, we will continue in-school symptomatic testing for students and staff that develop symptoms during the school day. We will discontinue the Test and Stay testing program and contact tracing. Please be vigilant in checking your student for symptoms, conducting the daily health assessment, and staying home when sick.
All testing information can be found on our website here: NPS COVID Testing Webpage. Also here is a FAQ.
Sincerely,
NPS COVID Testing Team
