President Sanchez wants to embrace every culture that makes up this country. She supports immigrants who are going through the process of becoming citizens by giving them shelter and resources for finding new jobs. “I saw how hard my parents worked, and I also saw how hard they struggled”, said President Sanchez. “I can’t be in charge of this country and not do anything to help people going through what they went through”. President Sanchez already helped over 100 immigrant families by providing the children of the families the best educational opportunities available. “These kids need access to the best schools because they need to reach the top. They could do it. I know they can”. “I need more of my amigas in my house anyway”. President Sanchez was privileged enough to go to an elite school because of her genius mind, and numerous scholarships. “I want to see more of me. I know they’re out there."
Letter from a citizen:
Looking through online articles about immigrants scares me a little. It’s scary to see their struggle, and it’s especially scary to read about the lives of some their children. Some of them weren’t promised higher education, because of their lack of access to it. Education is the key to helping me out of this life. It’s not a bad one, but I know I can have a better one. A better one for me and my family. The first week I arrived here in the states, my mom and dad received a package at the apartment that was provided for us. Surprisingly, it was a nice apartment. The packet was filled with information about employment for my parents and schooling opportunities for me. I’m so grateful for this. Whenever I read stories online about immigrant families from awhile ago, many recall feeling very lost and unwanted in America. That’s a feeling President Sanchez is getting rid of. She’s letting us know that we’re also important, and that we are someone. Because of her compassion, my parents have a good paying job, and are even looking at maybe taking an English class. I’m doing great too. I go to a really good school with awesome programs, and I made a lot of new friends. They actually think it’s super cool that I came from another country, and they ask me so many questions. I felt like a celebrity. It was awesome! I made sure to stay focused though.
When I lived in Mexico, I would hear throwback stories about people having to cross the border in very dangerous ways, and how refugees were not welcomed while Donald Trump was president. He seemed like a scary man. I respect those who entered this country under his rule so much. Their bravery inspires me today.
