Senior and junior students are encouraged to sign up for additional upcoming visits by college representatives by logging into their SchooLinks accounts and clicking “School Events”. See your school counselor for assistance in accessing your SchooLinks account.
COLLEGE NIGHT
The School Counseling Department will host an in-person College Night on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Rider Hall. This is a great opportunity to learn about the college selection process and financial aid. Hope to see you there!

TRANSFER ORIENTATION
Counselors welcomed 38 students to our Transfer Student Orientation on September 7th. Any students who started at Glenbard East after the first day of school were invited. Immediately following the presentation, stay and submit your application during our workshop, with help from the Illinois Student Assistance.
THE WRITE PLACE ANNOUNCED
Glenbard East is proud to announce the addition of a student-led center for writing support. The Write Place’s mission is to promote collaborative student learning by supporting writing across all school curriculums. Tutors will aid the students throughout the writing process and help them reach their writing goals. Tutors offer questions in place of corrections, support instead of criticism, and understanding rather than evaluation.
Students interested in volunteering as a Write Place Tutor should visit Room 251 during their lunch period.
Students seeking help with writing can visit the Write Place during lunch periods, starting September 18th.

TIPS FOR HEALTHY PARENT-TEEN RELATIONSHIPS
SUPERINTENDENT DR DAVID LARSON: GPS FREE PROGRAMS PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR FAMILIES
As adults, we seek guidance and advice about financial planning, our health and more, but it is not as common for adults to seek advice about raising children.
We are fortunate to have the Glenbard Parent Series (GPS), which provides a wealth of resources for families through free webinars. GPS hosts dozens of programs throughout the year, all aimed at helping children of every age thrive.
The programs feature national experts and local educators sharing information and strategies about issues that families face.
Each month, GPS presents several free programs during the afternoon and evening. No registration is required for these programs. The majority of the programs are webinars.
Student and Community Projects Coordinator Gilda Ross does a tremendous job coordinating GPS and lining up esteemed experts. These guest speakers discuss everything from teaching young people resilience to preparing for college to understanding anxiety, depression and addiction to managing stress and more.
There are webinars for families with teens, middle school children and children as young as age 3. Here are a few examples of GPS events this semester:
- What Happened to You: Conversations on Trauma, Resilience, and Healing A shift from ‘What is Wrong with You’
- Confronting Cyberbullying and Careless, Unwise Social Media Use in Tech-Savvy Kids
- The Power of Mindfulness to Increase Calm and Joy in Young Children
- How to Support Your Child’s Health and Wellbeing
- Congratulations, You’re Having a Teen!: The Guidebook You Always Wanted!
- 8 Failures/Setbacks That Can Make a Child a Success
Programs include events hosted by the Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee/Glenbard Parent Series-Spanish; Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee/GPS in Gujarati; and Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee/GPS in Urdu and Hindi; and Families United in Support of Excellence and Equity of all Students, Especially Those That Identity as African American or Black (FUSE).
Check out the schedule of GPS events at glenbardgps.org and plan to attend the programs that meet your needs. There’s no need to go it alone when support from GPS is just a click away.
