Unlocking the Possibilities!!!
Dear Friends,
This weekend my nephew and his sweet family came to visit. He has three children and one on the way. I am guilty of being the great-aunt who likes to spoil, treat, and say yes to everything!!! Aunt Jodie's house is filled with yummy treats and fun things to do.
Just eating junk food and indulging in sugary treats when hanging out with the people you love is so tempting. Along with a few gentle reminders from their parents, I tried hard to plan a weekend filled with quality time, and fun activities, balanced with nutritious and tasty treats.
Good luck managing the next few weeks! Enjoy the season, pace yourself, and don't forget downtime, boundaries, and clear expectations can help set the stage for a joyful holiday season, just has much as high-calorie sugary treats.
Merry Christmas, celebrate the season with a grateful heart surrounded by the people you love!

Christmas break is right around the corner. This is a great time to switch up the schedule and just enjoy life as a family!
Remember kids do best with predictability and routine; so even though the Christmas break will present a natural time to switch up the family schedule, don’t forget to maintain a little consistency and balance to help keep things in check. This will help with a smooth transition back to school when January rolls around.
A few things to avoid to make returning to school less bumpy, grumpy, and frustrating: giving kids less sleep, eating sugar nonstop without a healthy balance of fruits, vegetables, and protein, and allowing kids too much unstructured entertainment and social time.
To keep things fun, structured, and less sugary, here is a list of 25 activities you can enjoy with kids over the Christmas break that don't involve food:
Make holiday-themed crafts like wreaths, snow globes, snowflakes, stockings …
Go sledding or build a snowman (if you have snow).
Have a winter scavenger hunt.
Take a winter nature walk and observe seasonal changes.
Have a family movie night with everyone's favorite films.
Play board games or card games.
Have a family tournament with various games.
Read holiday-themed books or stories together.
Write and illustrate your own Christmas story.
Sing or write Christmas carols together.
Have a family dance party to festive music.
Work on jigsaw puzzles as a family.
Create a DIY photo booth with props.
Find local volunteer opportunities for the family.
Make holiday cards for nursing home residents or soldiers.
Put on a family play or talent show.
Visit local libraries.
Print pictures and put together a family scrapbook.
Make a wish list and set personal and family goals for the new year.
Set up a tent indoors and have a family camping night.
Tell stories with a flashlight under the "stars."
Have a drawing or painting session with a holiday theme.
Start a family gratitude jar, and write down things you're thankful for throughout the holiday season.
Remember to tailor these activities to the age and interests of the kids, and most importantly, have fun together!
Make a list of old friends and family to Facetime. Make a goal to Facetime one person a day over the holiday break!

Dr. Ross - Flourishbound
During the holidays, sweet treats and yummy sugary temptations are everywhere. It's a month-long balancing act for sure. This year, try and celebrate the holidays, while also paying attention to the amount of sugar your children are being offered or consumming.
Did you know that kids are more vulnerable to the damaging effects of sugar? It's true! During their growth and development, when important parts of their bodies are still being built, excessive sugar intake can throw this delicate process off track. Too much sugar can disrupt the natural development of vital organs, bones, and systems in their growing bodies. It's like a detour that can lead to potential health issues later in life. That's why it's crucial to be mindful of the amount of sugar our little ones consume. By reducing their sugar intake and promoting a balanced, nutrient-rich diet, we can support their healthy growth and minimize the risk of developmental disruptions.
Let's empower our children with the knowledge to make healthy choices and set them up for a lifetime of well-being. Check out the tips in the slide to help balance your child’s sugar naturally!
