This Saturday is the Michigan State vs. U of M football game. In the spirit of fun and fans everywhere, we are inviting students to wear GREEN & WHITE or MAIZE & BLUE to school on Friday, October 19th. This contest has been enjoyed for a very long time between Ms. Hogle and Mr. Clanton. We celebrate them and all the ways they have fun at school!

Please fill out a "VOLUNTEER" form by Monday, October 29th if you plan to visit any classroom on Halloween. Background checks can NOT be completed the day of Halloween.

On Wednesday, October 31st at 10:15 a.m. all CES students will join in a costume parade downtown. Families are welcome to stand along the sidewalks to view the parade. Please make sure your child has warm clothes on under their costume.

Many students are starting to bring toys, stuffed animals and prized possessions from home. These items are not allowed at school. They can cause a distraction from learning and they can be lost or stolen. Please check your child's back pack and ask them to leave these items at home. You will be informed by your child's teacher if there is a special project or event in which these items are allowed. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

• Mrs. Phelps taught Hand-Washing lessons in all classrooms.
• Kindergarteners took a field trip to Carpenter Farms.
• First Grade students took a field trip to Safetyville.
• The Columbia Fire Department presented Fire Safety rules to all K-2 students.
• Mrs. Wright reviewed the cafeteria rules with all of the students.

Vickie Heaton is the Child Care Director at Columbia Elementary School. Vickie has been the Childcare Director with Columbia School District since 1996. Her favorite part about her job is seeing all of the students' faces because they light up her morning and afternoon! Her favorite candy is Hershey's Almond chocolate bars. She loves to travel in the United States and abroad. She loved visiting Italy twice and plans go back. We thank "Ms. Vickie" for always taking great care of our students.

As the cold weather starts blowing in, please send your child with a coat, hat and gloves every day. Many items look alike so please label each item with your child's name.

Beginning Monday, October 22nd, Hot Cocoa is available in our cafeteria for 50 cents each morning before school. What a nice idea to start a cold morning in a warm way. Thank you Ms. Holly, Ms. Adonia & Ms. Jessica!

Amiee Entwistle is an author of the books "Halle Weenie" and "Halle Changes Her Ways". She will be visiting CES on Monday, October 29th at 8:30 a.m.

"Halle Weenie" is a story about a beautiful sweet toothed witch who dreams of having green icky teeth. She will go as far as to take candy from a sweet little boy named Eliot. But when Halle realizes the error of her ways, she repays Eliot with a special gift for all the candy she ate and promotes healthy eating for all little ones.

Her second book is "Halle Changes Her Ways." In this book, Halle realizes she doesn't like having icky teeth. Instead of keeping the candy for herself, she shares the candy with the troops oversea and different churches for people in need. Both of these books focus on sharing and good health.

Order forms will be sent home for book orders ahead of time. The purchased books will be signed and given to the children the day of the visit. If you have any questions, please check out Amiee Entwistle's website or contact her at:

If your child is absent, please call 592-7552 and leave a message including their name and reason for absence. This saves Mrs. Douglas time in the morning because she calls each person who hasn't called in and leaves them a message. Thank you for your help in this matter.
