The Llewellyn Friday Flyer
January 5, 2024
Dear Families,
Happy New Year! I hope the new year has started off well for you and your family!
We have started off with a bang...literally! This week we were treated to a science presentation by Marco from OMSI. She led a number of experiments with many student assistants to demonstrate change in matter. Let's put it this way, there were lots of bubbles, oozing "toothpaste," flames, and a finale that included a balloon explosion. If the "Oos," "Ahhhs", and "Ohs" were rating scales, I'd say the presentation exceeded! (Ask your child if they can define a catalyst.)
Don't forget, Parent Teacher Conferences will be next Thursday, January 10 & 11. While teachers & families have completed some conferences early, there is still time to schedule your child's conference for this week or next week, if needed. Specialists and Special Education staff will be available as well (Days may vary as many work in other buildings as well as Llewellyn.)
Warmly,
Principal Pam

We are still missing many Chromebooks borrowed during the strike! They are needed for classroom assignments and testing!
K-2 Parents – If your student borrowed a Chromebook for the strike, PLEASE return it immediately! These computers came from the carts that all K-2 students share, and we are still missing several carts’ worth of Chromebooks! IT will be locking unreturned Chromebooks at some point in the near future. Thank you for your help in rebuilding these important tools!
Changes in pick up or other after school plans?
Parents, PLEASE remember to let your teacher know about any after school changes. And be sure that ANYONE picking up your student at the end of the day is on your student’s Emergency Contact list. This includes OBOB team meetings! Your student’s safety is our number one priority. Please help us by making sure we know who with and where your student is going after school. You will find instructions for adding Emergency Contacts HERE.
From the School Nurse
Happy New Year, Llewellyn Families!
As we all settle back into our routines, we have a couple of safety reminders from the Health Room.
First, if your student is injured and comes to school in a splint, brace, cast or using crutches, we must have a note from their doctor that describes any physical restrictions. This will help us ensure that your student is safe and does not further injure themselves while at school.
Second, ALL medications, whether prescription or over-the-counter, MUST be checked into the health room by an adult for students to use throughout the day. Please do not send students to school with medication in their backpack, pocket, or lunches. This includes even basic medications, such as Tylenol and cough drops. This is a huge safety concern both for your student and others, and is against school policy.
Thank you for doing your part to help keep our school community healthy and safe!
- Nurse Melissa
From the TAG Coordinator
Talented and Gifted Winter Nominations:
The process starts with a conversation between parent/guardian and the classroom teacher. Together you can decide if the student meets the qualifications and/or should be tested. Students with test scores from last spring and fall that qualify for TAG have already been sent out to families. If you did not receive notification and you would like to nominate the window will be open until January 26th. The three areas that PPS identifies in are intellectual, reading, and math. You may decide to nominate in any area that applies. Once the parent/guardian has communicated/requested nomination, the teacher will fill out the required form and submit work samples. If further testing is required to make a determination the school, in coordination with the TAG office, will schedule the tests to be given. Notification regarding identification status will be sent out in early spring and be active the following year. Again, please inquire/request with the classroom teacher as they are responsible for filling out the nomination form. They will be able to discuss work samples and assessment data in regards to TAG requirements.
If you missed the TAG Night on December 13th the district video of the slide show is here.
If you have further questions please reach out.

From the District Indian Education Department
It’s the time of year when we start our last big push to increase enrollment numbers before we submit our application for the federal grant that sustains our department. As a reminder, the federal Title VI Indian Education Program is a program that provides supplemental support to Native American students who are enrolled, or who have a parent or a grandparent enrolled in a federally recognized tribe, state recognized tribe, terminated tribe, or Alaskan Native.
Indian Education 506 forms should be coming home to those who are already identified as belonging to a Native American tribe. If you identify as a member, but did not get a form, please contact the Llewellyn office and we will update your student’s ethnicity so you can get information moving forward.
You can also read this month’s Talking Circle (the Indian Education newsletter) HERE.
School Spirit Days
Every Friday will be a School Spirit Day. Students and staff are encouraged to wear their Llewellyn gear new or old. One Friday per month will be a fun theme. On 1/26 it will be Inside Out Day!
Inside Out Day- Friday, January 26th!
Wear your clothes inside out and show your school spirit!
News from the PTA
Welcome back everyone!
PTA Happenings
Welcome back everyone!! We hope you had a relaxing and fun-filled break! It wasn’t filled with snow but it looks like maybe in the next couple of weeks?? Snow or not, we are back and looking forward to all the fun events and fundraisers coming up in the next couple of months.
We are currently planning our newest and largest fundraiser, Readathon, and look forward to all the excitement for reading we hope to see with all the students, parents and teachers! It will begin on January 24th!! We are currently working on getting our site ready for pledges and our materials together to hand out to students. Please watch for an announcement on Konstella to explain this event and how we will be fundraising on the site. We are very excited to launch this new fundraiser and hope students and families will enjoy all the fun events we have planned along the way to help support them.
We are looking for a volunteer to take the lead for Reading Night coming up on February 1. This volunteer will coordinate calling potential readers and past readers like Timber Joey and Dillon Pickle. We will provide an already wonderful list that we have and maybe you can add to it with guests we haven’t had before. Please contact us at llewellynpta@gmail.com if you are interested in volunteering for this event. Our students love this night and really enjoy going from room to room to hear some of their favorite teachers, staff, community members and mascots. Look out for the sign up on Konstella!
Our next meeting will be on January 16 @ 7 pm in the Llewellyn library. Our very own Llewellyn parent, Lahela Isaacson, will be our guest speaker. Lahela is a therapist that works with children ages 3-10 and specializes in autism spectrum disorders and sensory processing challenges, emotional regulation, developmental challenges, parent coaching and family/dyadic therapy. Last year she spoke about neurodivergent learners and how to best support them in the classroom and at home. Her presentation is one you won’t want to miss!
