Dear Stonybrook Families,

We are continuing to celebrate Black History Month by collaborating to create art. Last week the students and staff worked together to create an art piece of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The art is displaced in the lobby of the WECC building.

We are just one month away from our exciting trip to Washington, DC & Gettysburg, so it will be here before we know it!



MEDICAL FORMS:

When you registered on-line, there was a page that asked for all medical information, including dietary restrictions, emergency contacts, etc. If you did not fill out this page, we would like to ask you to log-in to your account to complete this information. Also, if you have had any recent changes to your child's health, please go in and update your form as well. The website is www.appiantours.com and once you Log On, click on My Account, and scroll to the bottom to edit the information. Sometimes the student name will be listed to the left under "Access Acct" - if that is the case, you will want to select your child's name before editing the participant information to make sure you are updating the correct account. If you need assistance for this process, please don't hesitate to call us at (317) 903-2959.


MARK YOUR CALENDARS - PARENT MEETING:

There will be a pre-trip Parent Meeting on Thursday, February 27th at 6:00pm in the Cafeteria at Raymond Park Middle School. Stonybrook students will be traveling with Raymond Park students for this trip due to the number of registrations. So the meeting will be at Raymond Park, and we will be able to answer any of your questions here! At this meeting, the final timed itinerary, packing list and trip details will be reviewed.

School Safety & Security Reminders

SAFETY DRILLS

Stonybrook IMS conducts safety drills with the support of Warren Police at various times of the day and throughout the year to ensure that students and staff are prepared for unexpected events that may arise during the school day.

  • Periodic severe weather drills and lockdown drills, along with monthly fire drills, are conducted to ensure students and staff have time to practice the procedures associated with each situation.
  • Periodic bus evacuation drills are conducted on campus to allow students to practice and prepare for bus emergencies. Periodic bus scans are conducted with the support of Warren Police to ensure that materials being brought on campus are school appropriate.

Attention 7th Grade Parents!

SIMS will be conducting the abstinence-based program Making A Difference with our 7th grade scholars during the month of April. Permission slips will be sent home on Monday, Feb. 3rd with scholars. It is imperative that you read over the permission form, sign and return it to school with your child by Friday, Feb. 14th. We must know whether you wish for your child to take part in the program or decline instruction. Thank you in advance for reading over and making sure your child returns their signed permission form.

7th Grade Field Trip

7th grade parents, if you are interested in having your child go on the 7th grade trip to Chicago this May, please register now by reserving a seat on the travel bus. THe total cost of the trip is 145 per student and 165 per parent. There is a 25 dollar registeration fee due upon signing your child up. The final payment for the trip has to be made by Thursday, March 19, 2020.

21st Century Scholars

Please visit the 21st Century Scholars website. Apply online @ www.scholars.in.gov or submit the application through your school counselor. Students must sign up before June 30th during their 8th grade year.

Creative Writing Camp

Butler University has a summer Creative Writing Camp for your students that love reading and writing. If you have any talented writers/readers or interested students, please suggest our one-of-a-kind camp, now in its 23rd year. We would love to have your students 3rd grade through 12th join us on our campus this June. Camp meets 9am-4pm Monday through Friday the weeks of June 17-21 or June 24-28 (campers can also come both weeks).

Morning Drop-off


As the weather becomes increasingly colder, it is important to review our morning drop-off procedures.

  • Students are not able to enter the building until 8:35 a.m. This is the earliest we can guarantee appropriate adult supervision.
  • Students should NOT be dropped off prior to 8:35 a.m. each day; if they are, they will be standing in cold temperatures until staff supervision arrives and students are let in to the cafeteria.

Scholastic Book Fair

February 10-18, 2020

Scholastic will be visiting Stonybrook's Mediaplex for it's Spring Book Fair. There will be lots of new books available! ELA classes will have opportunities to visit during the school day. The book fair is also available online, just visit: www.scholastic.com/bf/stmediaplex

High Ability Program

Warren's High Ability Program is designed to meet the unique academic needs of gifted and talented students. The curriculum in these classes is differentiated and faster paced and students will be working above grade level if they qualify. As a district, we look at all students in grades 1, 4, 6 and 8 to see if they qualify for the following school year based on eligibility criteria. Parent recommendations are considered along with achievement scores when determining placement in high ability. More detailed identification information can be found here. If you would like to complete a recommendation for the broad based planning committee to consider you can do so here 2020-2021 High Ability Parent Recommendation Form The parent recommendation form will be open until January 31, 2020.

2019 Pesticide Notification Registry

The Indiana Pesticide Review Board has regulations that impact how school corporations may use pesticides on school grounds. MSD Warren Township follows these guidelines and we are inviting parents and guardians to join our Pesticide Notification Registry. By signing up for this registry, you will be notified via email at least 48 hours prior to a pesticide application at your child’s school, subject to certain exceptions. You will be invited to sign up for this notification each school year.
