Unity Day
Pecatonica Elementary School celebrated Unity Day on September 15, 2023. Students were grouped with others from various grade levels to participate in activities and games that helped them bond, build relationships, and use teamwork. The weather was perfect and everyone had a blast! A special thanks goes out to our PBIS team (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) who work hard to celebrate student achievements and positive behaviors. We also thank our parent/family volunteers who helped make the day a success. We couldn't have done it without you.
October PBIS Theme -- Respect
Respect
In this month's newsletter, we shine a spotlight on the cornerstone of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS): RESPECT.
Respect is not just a word; it's a powerful concept that underpins a positive school or organizational culture. PBIS recognizes the vital role respect plays in creating a nurturing environment where everyone can thrive.
But what does respect really mean in the context of PBIS?
Respect for Self: PBIS encourages individuals to develop self-respect by recognizing their own worth and value. When we value ourselves, it becomes easier to make positive choices and treat others with respect.
Respect for Others: PBIS fosters a culture of respect for others' feelings, perspectives, and boundaries. Teaching empathy and active listening skills helps build harmonious relationships.
Respect for the Environment: PBIS extends respect to the physical and emotional environment. Keeping shared spaces clean, safe, and welcoming demonstrates care and consideration.
Respect for Learning: In educational settings, PBIS promotes respect for the learning process. It encourages a growth mindset, where challenges are seen as opportunities for growth rather than obstacles.
By embracing respect as a core value, PBIS empowers schools and organizations to create a culture where positive behaviors are not just encouraged but become second nature. This approach promotes better relationships, enhances personal growth, and paves the way for a more inclusive and respectful community.
Star Spangled Banner
On Friday, September 29, PES students had the honor of singing the Star Spangled Banner at the homecoming football game. Students from all grades K-4 participated and made it an unforgettable rendition. Thank you to all who participated.
