New Locked Door Procedures
Swanson Elementary School is starting in 2020 with additional security measures. Swanson will begin locking our front doors starting January 21 during the instructional day. This new locking system will have our doors locked during the hours of 9:20-3:30 pm. The system will work as follows: when visitors arrive on campus, they will be expected to use a doorbell, which will activate an alert on our video-intercom device in the front office. Once the doorbell is used, our front office staff will respond to identify the visitor, and then unlock the front door for entry after verification has been made. Visitors will need to bring their driver's license or state-issued identification. Visitors will also need to stop by the office to get a visitor sticker after entering the school. As always, Visitors are VERY MUCH WELCOME at Swanson!!!
Students arriving after 9:20 will require a parent or guardian to assist them in gaining entrance into school after the doors have been locked. Please escort your child into the building after 9:20.
Since this feature will be new to all of us, we ask for your patience as we navigate through the first weeks of implementation of this new video intercom security. We see this new measure of security as a proactive, common-sense way of increasing student safety. If you have any questions, please contact us at 861-5300 or via email rourka.spatz@matsuk12.us.

End of Day Dismissal Policy
Parents- we need your help! Our end of day procedures are chaos at best as we move 470+ students from classrooms, to gym pick up, and to buses. Help us keep your children safe by adhering to the following:
- All end of day changes that are not pre-scheduled will be made no later than 3 PM.
- We will not call students down from classrooms past 3:20 PM. If children are leaving early for the day, they should be picked up by 3:15 PM.
- Students will not be called off buses to be picked up by another means until all students are loaded onto buses. We have almost 700 elementary students on the bus loop at the end of the day. Those types of delays have rippling effects and affect other parents waiting for their children to get home in a timely manner.
Thank you for your support!
