CELEBRATIONS!
Great things are happening at WCS!
We have reached, yet another milestone in the accumulation of Woolwich WOW Tickets! These tickets are given to students when they are seen going above and beyond to be good citizens of our school community. Currently we have distributed 361 tickets and we will celebrate this feat with DECADES DAY featuring DJ Dimbleby at recess next Thursday (3/16.) Students are encouraged to dress in the fashion of their favorite decade and dance on the playground after lunch!

A NOTE FROM MR. LIBBY
I have observed over the last two weeks an increase in the number of students being dropped off or picked up at school. This is typical for this time of year, however, with this increase in traffic flow I have also observed some near accidents and people arriving earlier than they need to. This is a friendly reminder that our arrival time begins at 8:20 AM and parent pick up at dismissal begins at 3:05 PM. I encourage everyone to aim for these times, and to please drive carefully in and out of our front entrances.

CHICKADEE BOOK AWARDS
This week a variety of staff members read some of the picture book contenders for the Chickadee Book Awards to our K - 3rd grade classes!
The Chickadee Award began in 2005 and is named after Maine's state bird. A committee of librarians, teachers and early literacy professionals selected this year’s titles. Students have a chance to hear all of the options and then vote on their favorite. The votes are then submitted to the committee and tallied up across the state of Maine to determine the ultimate winning title. Last year, 21,730 children from Maine schools and libraries participated. Last year's winning book was Fussy Flamingo by Shelly Vaughan James and illustrated by Matthew Rivera.
The goal is for children to develop an appreciation of outstanding writing and illustration in current children’s picture books through participation in the program. We hope they will become discriminating readers by voting for their favorite book.
