Hemlock to Host Boys Soccer District
Hemlock will be the site this year for the District 44 boys soccer games. The first round will take place on Wednesday, October 9th and consists of four games: Ithaca @ Bullock Creek (6pm), Hemlock vs. Shepherd (7pm), Swan Valley @ Freeland (6pm) and Chesaning @ Alma (4:30pm). The second round will be on Wednesday, October 16th with both games at Hemlock, 5pm & 7pm. The final will be on Saturday, October 19th, 12pm.
The Hemlock team took seed #1 with the new Michigan Power Rating (MPR) system.
MPR is calculated using wins, losses and ties for games played between teams entered into the MHSAA tournament. Scores of games, margin of victory and location of games are not included in the MPR formula. The final MPR number is 25% of the team's winning percentage, plus 50% of its opponent's winning percentage, plus 25% of its opponent's opponent's winning percentage.

1. Do you have a special reason why you wear the number that you do? Not applicable.
2. What are some of your other hobbies? I enjoy reading and programming.
3. What is your favorite movie? Star Wars: Return of the Jedi
4. If you could pick any place in the world to live, where would you choose? I would choose Florida because of its good climate and beautiful coastline.
5. Favorite college/pro team? The Michigan State Spartans
6. Favorite teacher/staff member & why? It is Mrs. Strachota because of how much she cares for her students.
7. Favorite video game? Overwatch
8. Favorite family recipe? My mother’s chicken soup is my favorite.

11. What is your dream job? I want to be a computer software engineer.
12. Do you think playing sports at Hemlock made a difference in your life? Why? Yes because it made me start looking at possible colleges at which I could play tennis.
13. Is there a coach that really made an impact on your life? Why? Yes, his name is Dennis and he made an impact on my life by improving my tennis games tremendously since we first met.
14. What will you miss the most about Hemlock High School? The thing I will miss most about Hemlock High School is not being able to play on the varsity tennis team anymore.

1. What is your favorite sport to watch (Hemlock Sports)? Why? Football because I love cheering in the student section and the sport is fun.

4. If you could pick any place in the world to live, where would you choose? Hawaii or Greece
5. Favorite college/pro team? Michigan State
6. If you were a college/pro team mascot, who would you be? Why? I would be Sparty because that is my favorite team and he seems like he’s having a good time.
7. Favorite teacher/staff member & why? Mrs. Strachota because she’s super nice and always helps me even if she’s busy. AND Mrs. Willour because Spanish rocks!

6. Favorite teacher/staff member & why? Mr. Chase because he’s always there for any student & he deals with my complaining.

10. What are your plans after high school? Go to either CMU, GUSU or SVSU and go into the financial field.

12. Do you think that academic success has helped in your athletics? Yes because it taught me many different skills, like counting to 8 (pom joke).
13. Is there a coach that really made an impact on your life? Why? There is not enough words to describe how much Mariah Curtiss has impacted my life. She’s shaped me into the person I am today.
14. What will you miss the most about Hemlock High School? The staff, poms & pep rallies.

1. Do you have a special reason why you wear the number that you do? Number 26 is the number that I had Freshmen year and I’m too cheap to get new numbers on my uniform.
2. What are some of your other hobbies? Hunting, playing other sports, researching science trivia and gaming

4. If you could pick any place in the world to live, where would you choose? Monte Carlo
5. Favorite college/pro team? Team Liquid (American Esports team)
6. Favorite teacher/staff member & why? Mr. Yuvan because he tells it like it is.

12. Do you think playing sports at Hemlock made a difference in your life? Why? Yes, it has kept me in shape and helped me to deal with hardships.
13. Is there a coach that really made an impact on your life? Why? Brayden Federly, working hard and pushing your limits makes you stronger but taking care of yourself lets you grow.
14. What will you miss the most about Hemlock High School? After four years, it will be weird to not have the structured regiment that high school has provided me. I thrive off schedules, now I need to work on keeping my own.

1. Do you have a special reason why you wear the number that you do? We don’t wear numbers in cross country so we wear different socks that are customized.
2. What are some of your other hobbies? I like fishing and skiing and snowboarding.
3. What is your favorite movie?
My favorite movie is Silence of the Lambs.
4. If you could pick any place in the world to live, where would you choose? I would live in Italy.
5. Favorite college/pro team?
I don’t have much interest in professional sports or college sports.
6. Favorite teacher/staff member & why? My favorite teacher is Mrs. Whitford because she explains well and is funny and laid back.

8. Favorite family recipe? My grandmothers homemade zucchini bread.
9. Do you have any advice for future Hemlock High School student athletes? Never give up no matter how hard a challenge might seem.
10. What are your plans after high school? My plans are to pursue a career as a cardiologist.
11. Do you think that academic success has helped in your athletics? I think that academic success has only kept me in sports but hasn’t had any impact.
12. Is there a coach that really made an impact on your life? Why? My father has made the most impact on me as a coach because he taught me to never quit which has helped me in many things.
13. What will you miss most about Hemlock High School? I will miss being able to see all my friends every day.

9/25/19 - JV Volleyball @ Carrollton - L (21-25, 25-15, 12-15) Ryley Chamberlin led the Lady Huskies with 6 aces and 2 kills.
9/25/19 - F Volleyball @ Carrollton - L (25-10, 17-25, 11-15) Sydney Emmendorfer served well and played her best passing game yet. Claudia served well and had a few great blocks. Maddy Blue and Alex Kain we’re both playing positions they weren’t used to and did a great job at adjusting to them.
9/25/19 - V Soccer @ Ithaca - W (4-1) Gabe Tallon led the scoring for the Huskies with 2 goals. Nolan Finkbeiner and Ethan Vietti each had 1 goal. Matt Loucks contributed with 2 assists while Nolan Finkbeiner had 1. Andrew Knoll had 11 saves in goal.
9/25/19 - V Tennis vs. Frankemuth - L (3-5) Outstanding performances were given by Joe Renas and Owen Nurnberg for winning 6-4 / 6-4. Max Hauffe beat his opponent 6-1 / 6-2 and a special congratulations to the match of the night which went to Joe Lockwood and Carl Spannagel who went three sets and won 7-5 / 3-6 and took the final set 7-6 in a tiebreaker 7 to 1.
9/26/19 - JV Football vs. MLS - W (36-7) Max Dinninger threw 2 TD passes and ran for 1 TD. Anthony Zechmiester and Bryce Murphy caught a TD pass. Luke Zastrow ran for a TD. Jacob Shelagowski had a pick 6 and Payton Hammond has 2 Interceptions.
9/26/19 - JV Soccer vs. Freeland - L (1-2) Colton Marino scored for the huskies.
9/27/19 - V Football @ MLS - W (12-6) Defeated the #2 ranked football team in the State, Michigan Lutheran Seminary on Friday and Saturday. Brady Devereaux and Bob Knapik scored Touchdowns. The defense did not allow an MLS TD. The defense was led by Aaryn Sylvester.
9/28/19 - V Cross Country @ Shepherd - Chloe Watson, Evan Robishaw, Tyler Jones, and Carson Penny received medals. Alex Grzenia, Reagan Keyser, Hailey Scherzer, Chloe Watson, Tyler Jones, Xander Nichols, Dennis Schaffer, and Nathan Scherzer ran personal best times. Heidi Huizar, Katie Rondy , Lexi Seidel, Paige Walle, Colin Chevalier, Carson Penny, and Evan Robishaw ran season best times.
9/30/19 - V Soccer vs. Bullock Creek - W (4-1) Matt Loucks was the first Huskie to score volleying a corner kick served up by Ethan Vietti 15 minutes into the game. Mitch Hingston scored the next goal from a free kick 20 yards out 6 minutes into the second half. Nolan Finkbeiner and Ethan Vietti each added a goal of their own. Ethan Vietti had 2 assists in the game and Gabe Tallon had 1. Andrew Knoll finished the game with 9 saves. The defense of Anthony Hagarty, Seth Byrne, Cole Urbaniak, Evan Knoll, Josh Wardlow, and Colton Kreh played a nearly perfect game keeping the Lancer attack to a minimum.
9/30/19 - JV Soccer vs. Frankenmuth - T (0-0)
9/30/19 - V Tennis vs. Ithaca - W (5-3) Congratulations to Max Hauffe for beating his opponent 6-0 / 6-0. Alexis Guerrero beat her opponent 6-1 / 6-0. Joe Renas and Owen Nurnberg beat their opponent 6-1 / 6-0 and Carl Spannagel and Ben Lockwood won by a score of 7-5 and 6-4. And the match of the evening goes to Cory Dobrowolsky who went a full 3 hours in some ferocious heat. He lost the first set in a close tiebreaker 5 to 7, but came back in an epic fashion to beat his opponent in the next two games 6-1 / 6-1
