Food For Thought... Making the Target Clear
The most effective use of an objective, EQ or kid friendly goal is when it is used by the teacher to focus the learning, set the tone for the activity or lesson. Students should know what they are to be learning, or why they are doing an activity. Setting the objective is a high-yield instructional strategy that can happen during any part of the lesson, and can be used to refocus or recap/summarize a segment of the class before moving on to the next part of the class or lesson.
Do your students know why they are doing a task or activity? Do they know what they should know and be able to do when the lesson is over?
You have very limited board space, but I do think it is valuable use of some of that space to set your learning objective or target with kids.

Shoutouts from Leadership
- Mrs. Webster had an awesome technology alternative when software didn't work, that kept her able to continue to work with a small group, with <1 min diversion. Thank you for having a Plan B!
- Mr. Belay has had a second project funded through Donors Choose this year, putting resources in his students hands.
- Ms. Cella's advanced math 6th grade class placed 2nd in the Easter Time Zone for Imagine Math Veteran's Day competition - having students complete math problems which resulted in a charity donation.
- Coach Swilling led the boys' basketball to their first win! They were 1:1 Friday
- Ms. Underwood's students had a blast doing “Text Features Surgery”. Students were to “dissect” an informational text from their “patient”. They had so much going through their Pre-Operation Checklist and operating. It kept them engaged and made the material more hands-on for them.
- I loved seeing the engagement with Quizziz in Ms. Reemsynder's classroom.
- Students in Ms. Heldenbrand's class were building sentences with a multi-sensory center activity on Thursday.
- Jared led middle school's very empowering student government elections. Students showed maturity and responsibility in their posting on Edmodo and learned about the use of having a platform or a stand on an issue.
