Good Morning OES families!
It is that time of year when students are in need of an extra layer for recess. Please help your children be prepared for the colder weather. Many students are arriving at school not appropriately dressed for recess. All students have recess everyday.
This past week students in grades K-2 participated in Fire Prevention Week. The Orleans Fire Department visited the school with their truck, then the students walked to the fire station. The fire department talked to them about fire safety, as well as how to stop, drop, and roll. There were many smiling faces, and red fire hats in our building. (See photos below)
On Friday, students in grades K-4 (as well as some middle schoolers) watched "Elemental" on the big screen in the gym. Students enjoyed popcorn, and time with other members of our school community. I'd like to thank the middle school students for modeling positive behavior expectations, and their appropriate interactions with the younger students. While students were engaged in the movie this provided an opportunity for all EL teachers to attend a virtual training.
Starting tomorrow in Grades K-4 - (Monday October 16th)
It was brought to my attention that some classes were providing a snack opportunity to students and other classes were not. As a way to make it equitable throughout K-4 classrooms, all students in these classes will have the opportunity to have a granola bar (in a variety of flavors) mid-morning. If you prefer to send a pre-packaged granola bar from home that is also acceptable. The afternoon snack is a Fresh Fruit or Vegetable. This is provided by grant funding. If your child prefers to bring in their own fresh fruit or vegetable that is acceptable as well.
Once again, I would like to remind students that all cell phones should be turned off and stored in their locker/backpack, or with an adult for the school day. Cell phones continue to be a daily issue in middle school.
As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
