It is hard to believe that February is already half over! We have basketball wrapping up this month for Jr. High, some days off for students, and info around PTI's!

The following dates will be no school for students:

February 16-17- Teacher's Convention

February 20- Family Day

February 21- Staff Collaboration Day

March 2 - Early Dismissal

March 20 - Staff Collaboration Day

March 27 to 31 - Spring break

Even though these last couple of weeks seem to be bringing in spring air please remember this is only a temporary reprieve and that winter has not left us yet. Please be sure your students arrive with outdoor clothing so they stay safe and warm.

The Winter Concert was held on February 2. Grade six, seven and eight concert bands, Jazz Band, and Choir presented selections they had been working on. There was a great turnout!

Hello BRSD families!

Students from across the world want to join us in Battle River School Division. Are you able to help welcome them?

We are seeking caring families to host students in their home during the 2023-2024 school year. International Student placements can range from one month to the full school year in duration, so you can choose an option that works for your family.

Right now, we have students who will be joining us from Germany, Belgium, Spain and other European countries, as well as from Asia and South America. Hosting an International Student can change their life for the better and will give your family the chance to learn more about other cultures and countries as well. Lifelong connections and friendships can be made.

There is a $700 per month stipend provided to help offset costs.

Parents, a reminder that student learning is reported digitally on PowerSchool in real-time. To see your child's overall mark, please make sure you are moving out of the Q1 and Q2 setting, and using the 22-23 option!

We encourage parents to contact their child’s teachers if they have questions about their child’s learning. You can find our staff directory here.

Every year we are required to provide Alberta Education with a signed and dated Student Verification form for each of our students. We also use the form to ensure all of the information we have regarding your child(ren) is correct. This year we have moved to an electronic verification form for this process. In an attempt to streamline our process, the FOIP and Technology Use forms have been incorporated into the Verification form.

To access and complete this form you will need to log into the PowerSchool parent portal via your Web browser (Google Chrome for example. You will not be able to complete this process on the App). If you have not signed into PowerSchool before please click on "Forgot my password" your user name is your first name capitalized -period - last name capitalized ex: John.Smith then enter the email you have provided us with. You will receive an email on how to reset your password and will then be able to access PowerSchool and School Engage. Once logged in Click on the SchoolEngage icon on the left. You will be redirected to the SchoolEngage site where you can select your child’s name. Click on the 2022-2023 Student Verification Form and then on the blue icon in the first column to review the information. Once you’ve completed your verification, click on the green submit button on the bottom of the page.

It is that time of the year again when teachers and parents can connect and speak about their kids! Interviews will take place on March, 23, 2023 from 4-9pm. We will be offering in person interviews, but if you would like to arrange a phone call or Google Meet, please let your child's teacher know. We look forward to seeing everyone IN OUR HOUSE!

ECKS School Council is working hard to raise funds for our building. One of the methods they are using is a Chocolate Almond Sale to help raise funds for our Phys-Ed equipment and for furnishings for the Learning Commons. You can purchase almonds at the office or online!

The RISE (Reaching Independence through Structured Education) Program at Ecole Charlie Killam School is currently seeking donations for an online auction to raise funds for sensory items such as a calming bubble tube, a rocking glider chair, fibre optic curtain lights, etc.

Currently, our options for sensory play and interaction are limited. The RISE Program provides support to students with unique educational needs/severe medical or cognitive disabilities, significant academic, and/or social delays. Programming emphasizes development of literacy and numeracy skills and the application of academic, social and life skills in the classroom, school and community. This is achieved through a smaller classroom environment focusing on flexible instruction, use of assistive supports and a slower pace of targeted instruction.

We are going to be running an online auction from March 14-19, 2023, and hope you will be able to help with an auction donation item! Every little bit helps, and we are SO very grateful!! Please let me know if you think you would be able to help out.

The RISE Program staff

Our MHCB team is partnering with the Camrose Public Library on this coming Thursday and Friday of Teachers Convention to offer two separate drop-in sessions for students. Our team will have snacks and kindness activities for students to try in the library Makerspace.
