Crane R-III District Updates
From the Superintendent's Desk
Fall 2023
District News
Bond Issue Update: We are extremely thankful for our patrons of Crane R-III who voted for our bond issue in April of 2022. The one million dollar bond will be combined with other funds from the capital fund to have an eight lane track built with the field events. The $1.7 million dollar project also includes a gravel parking lot. We are patiently waiting for the contractor who is building our track to complete his current job so we can break ground across Highway 413 where our Crane Sports Complex will be going.
School Resource Officer: If you have seen the Stone County Sheriff Patrol Cruiser in our parking lot and wondered what was going on, it belongs to our School Resource Officer (SRO). Thanks to the tax increase Stone County voters passed last Spring and a grant received for Hurley, Galena and Crane, we have our own SRO at Crane! His name is Officer Nolan and we are so thankful for him. He is committed to keeping our students and staff safe!
Continuous School Improvement Plan: Every district in the state of Missouri must have a Continuous School Improvement Plan or CSIP which has goals the district commits to working towards. We have submitted our CSIP to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and are awaiting their feedback. The goals we developed came from the surveys many of our parents, staff, students and community members completed last year. You can see those goals in the graphic below. Keep in mind, you will need to zoom in to read the print. ;)
Free or Reduced Meal Applications: Please help our district by filling out a Free or Reduced Meal application. Remember, you can re-submit these forms any time your income changes. Watch the video found here to see how filling these forms out can help our school district!
Lead Testing Results: Due to a new Missouri Statute, we had our water tested for lead at the beginning of August. The company we used for this testing tested every water source we had in the building. We had 196 samples taken and of those, 76 faucets had levels higher than 5 ppb. These faucets all have signs to inform students and/or staff to not drink or use for consumption. Fortunately, all of our drinking fountains were found to either have no trace of lead or amounts under 5 ppb. The faucets which tested above 5 ppb will be retested the second week of November. If levels are still high, then we will take the necessary actions to ensure students and staff are not using those water sources for consumption. We are optimistic that our levels from the retest will be better as the sinks identified had not been in use over the summer months. We will post the updated results on our website once we receive them.
Increased Accessible Parking Spots: We have increased the number of spots for those needing accessible parking in the high school parking lot.
Air Purifiers in Every Room: We were able to take advantage of the HEPA Air Purifier Project with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. This project provided over $86,000 in air purifiers for every single classroom and space in the school. It also provided two replacement filters for each unit. We are hopeful the air purifiers are making a positive impact in our classrooms in regards to the overall health of our staff and students!
School Safety Grant: Our school received monies from the first round of the Safety Grant provided by the state of Missouri. That money was used for the following updates to help in our overall safety and security at Crane!
- Key fob added to JH Gym Side Door
- Key fob added to the 5th/6th Grade Recess Door
- Subscription to Rooms via our school app
- Four additional AEDs and tourniquets
- Active Shooter Training for all Staff
- Updated video cameras on all our school buses
Rooms Through the Crane R-III App: With some of the funds from the safety grant our district received, we purchased the communication portion of our App and website. The purpose is to have a consistent communication tool throughout the district where parents can have two-way communication between themselves and their children's teacher(s). We are hopeful once the kinks get worked out, this will be a beneficial and easy way to foster communication. If you have received a text message or email with directions on getting connected, please complete that process so you can stay updated on your child's classes.
Crane R-III App: In case you missed it or are new to the district, we have our very own app for smart phones. You can go to the app store of your phone to download the app. This app provides "all things Crane R-III" in the palm of your hands. See the graphics below if you need help downloading the app.
If you have had the app downloaded, please make sure it is the updated version. If you don't know how to check this, the easiest way is to delete the app from your phone and reinstall it.
You also want to make sure you have the notifications turned on so you can be updated as new information is shared.
Crane's Report Card: Families can view our Report Card as determined by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education on our website or by clicking here. Our Annual Performance Report wasn't the worst and it wasn't the best. We continue to lose points based on our students' testing performance even though they are making growth and on our students' overall attendance! If you have ever wondered how attendance impacts our school, our "report card" and our funding both hinge on our attendance rate. Please help us by getting your kids to school every day when they are not sick! Below you can see how the other districts in our SWCL (Southwest Central League) scored.
