Ask your child...
Have you ever asked your student how his/her day was and you get one word answers? Use these questions to ask specific questions about the week and get him/her talking!
Questions for this past week:
- PE - What is the kitchen on a pickleball court? (Students are doing different units to share supplies, at some point they will learn pickleball.)
- Keycode - What is you wpm and accuracy right now?
- Art 6 - Tell me about the gridded self-portrait you are working on right now.
- Science 7 - Tell me something about the properties of water. (Listen for words like surface tension, cohesion, draw together...)
- Social Studies 6 - Students are learning about ancient India. Ask them to tell you about the religions in ancient India.
Questions for this upcoming week:
- Math 6 - What is unit rate?
- Math 7 - They are starting an integers unit. Ask them how to add integers.
- ELA 7 - How does a setting effect characters? How do you analyze story element (setting, characters, & plot)?
- Drama - What are some ways I communicate with you non-verbally?
- ELA 6 - Summarize the novel Some Kind of Courage? What happened in the climax of the novel?

Yard Signs for sale!
Tuesday is the last day to order Hellstern yard signs! Order forms can be picked up in your student's advisory class or Coach Smith (ksmith5@sdale.org).
Fundraiser for Girls Basketball
Now taking pre-orders for foam trucker hats! Proceeds from sales benefit Hellstern 7th Grade Girls Basketball. Pre-orders can be made now through October 12th. Please be sure to include your first and last name, telephone number and email address in the description box. We hope to receive all orders by the end of October. Once received, we will reach out to you by email to arrange for pick up. Thank you for your support!
Donation for Clubs
We will be having "clubs" coming in October. You will hear more about this later - however, we have a teacher wanting to offer a yoga club. If you have a mat you would like to donate, please send them to the office. We will clean and disinfect them. Thanks in advance!

PTO Fundraiser
PTO’s Help a Hero fundraiser (the one and only fundraiser of the year) kicked off last week. Envelopes and flyers were sent home with each student, so check backpacks if you haven’t seen it! Each student is encouraged to ask family, friends, and neighbors to support HMS! Great, fun prizes are only available to fundraiser participants! Donations can be made online, in cash, or with a check made out to Hellstern Middle School PTO. All money must be turned in by Friday, October 7!
Pink Out Tailgate
Purchase your tickets to the Pink Out Tailgate, occurring October 6 after school. Ticket sales close 5 pm October 4! There are 150 tickets available.
