A Note from Dr. Hooks
Dear Hyde-Addison ES Families,
In the midst of these trying times, I hope this message finds you and your loved ones safe and out of harm’s way. If you have not had the opportunity to read my message to our school community, regarding the recent events at the U.S. Capitol, please see the attachment here.
Term 3 begins on February 1, 2021. Please see Term 3 and CARE classroom updates, below.
- January 11, 2021: Seats will begin being offered for In-Person Learning, for PK-3rd grade. Per DCPS guidance, in the In Person Learning (IPL) lottery, the first priority will be given to students who accepted seats in the IPL lottery last fall, followed by students experiencing homelessness, students receiving EL services, students with IEPs, students identified by DCPS as at-risk and all remaining students, contingent upon instructional models and maximum in-person class sizes.
- January 13, 2021: A Term 3 Family Information Forum will take place at 4:00pm. You may use this link to join. Click here to join the meeting
- January 15, 2021: A Term 3 Family Information Forum will take place at 9:00am. You may use this link to join. Click here to join the meeting
- January 21, 2021: One 4th Grade Care Classroom is slated to open. Student seat offers are ongoing, based on the DCPS student selection process.
- January 21, 2021: One 5th Grade Care Classroom is slated to open. Student seat offers are ongoing, based on the DCPS student selection process.
- January 25-29, 2021: As previously shared, there may be shifts to student classroom assignments, due to some teachers returning to in-person learning, with a maximum classroom capacity, in accordance with CDC and DC Health requirements. If your child is in the homeroom class of a teacher who will be teaching in-person, you will receive communication from Hyde-Addison ES to share their re-assigned classroom teacher, if relevant.
- February 1, 2021. Term 3 begins. We are slated to offer 1 In-Person Classroom per grade (PK-3), based on safety regulations and feedback collected from families, staff and community stakeholders. 4th and 5th grade CARE classrooms will already be in session.
Please keep you and your loved ones safe. For resources and information about the District of Columbia Government’s coronavirus (COVID-19) response and recovery efforts, please visit coronavirus.dc.gov. Please visit dcpsreopenstrong.com or backtoschool.dc.gov for DCPS virtual learning resources.

Make a Card for a Homebound Senior
The DC Department of Aging and Community Living would like to invite your school to participate in our Annual Cupid’s Kids campaign and help lift the spirits of homebound seniors during Valentine’s Day. This year, we are doing things a little different! In partnership with DC Public Library, we are inviting everyone in the community to help make handmade Valentine’s Day cards for isolated and homebound District seniors. Isolation during the pandemic has made it harder for seniors to stay connected and the winter months are a peak time for social isolation and loneliness for many in the District. Your school’s contribution would spread kindness to seniors, many of whom live alone, and teach students how they can make a positive impact in the community—one individual at a time.
This year’s goal is to send handmade Valentine’s Day cards to over 6,000 recipients of DACL’s home-delivered meals program. The cards will be included in the February meal delivery. We are hoping schools will pass along the toolkit to families and encourage them to make cards from home. Handmade Valentine’s Day cards will be collected at select DCPL sites. Locations are listed in the toolkit, which also includes instructions on how to make a card. You may also visit our website https://dacl.dc.gov/page/cupidskids for more information.
Looking forward to receiving your cards!
Internet 4 All
For the SY20-21, Mayor Bowser announced an initiative to provide Internet 4 All for those that have students Enrolled at a DCPS school that receive SNAP or TANF Benefits. Please visit Internet 4 All for informative information regarding the process of signing up for the program.
