a note from your director
Our Jaguar Band just had another wonderful weekend! How about a quick review before we move into this weeks activities!
Saturday was the TMEA (Texas Music Educators Convention). This is where the Texas All State Bands perform! The concert given by the various All State ensembles were incredible! It was absolutely amazing to hear such talent from across the state of Texas. What was even more amazing was the fact that these concerts were prepared in just a few days! When considering the time rehearsed and the quality produced it was astounding! We are so proud of Parker Taylor for becoming a member of such an amazing ensemble and representing our Jaguar Band!
Also this week was another TCGC Regional contest. This weeks event was held at Hendrickson HS and had 65 Winter Guard competing!! Our Jaguar Guard program had another awesome weekend!! Our JV Guard finished in second place knocking off several varsity groups including Connally HS, Sandra Day O’Conner HS and Judson HS. They were kept out of 1st place by 1.5 points! So close to sweeping their division! Our Jaguar Varsity came out on top and finished in first place again. We could not be more proud of their accomplishments! All of the students in our Jaguar Guard program work tirelessly at their craft and represent Johnson in a manner that makes us all incredibly proud! Let’s keep wishing them luck as they move through their season!
Now for something new and exciting this coming weekend! This Sunday, February 20, is the Night Of Jazz event held at the Hays PAC!!! It features the Jazz Bands from Dahlstrom MS, Hays HS and our own Johnson Jaguar Jazz Ensemble! Mr Malik and our Jazz Ensemble have been working extremely hard, and we can’t wait to hear and see the show on Sunday! Put it on your calendar! A Night of Jazz, February 20, 7 p.m. at the Hays CISD PAC! Oh, and it’s FREE!!!!!!
This week we also continue our regularly scheduled Wind Ensemble rehearsals and sectionals, our percussion camps and our Winter Guard practices. Check the Jag Band Calendar for dates and times.
Hawaii is getting closer and closer! Make sure you are taking care of any last minute items needed and please continue to follow the links on the Hawaii letter to keep up with the ever changing COVID protocols and requirements!
Let’s have another GREAT week! As always: It’s A Great Day To Be A Jaguar!

HOW YOU CAN HELP!
Fly-A-Flag Program
Can you donate ONE HOUR of your time to install flags and ONE HOUR to collect flags? The schedule is flexible! The Fly A Flag Program needs EIGHT volunteers for their President's Day Flags. Students are welcome to help but must be accompanied by an adult. Please see sign-up for details. WE REALLY NEED YOUR HELP!

HELP HOST THE TEXAS COLOR GUARD CIRCUIT
The Hosts with the Most (Texas Color Guard Circuit, March 19)
We need your help in hosting the Texas Color Guard Circuit (TCGC) on March 19th! As many of you will recall, this competition is very well-attended and provides us with not only an opportunity to showcase our program to the entire area (our competition date is the Class A Championship and Area Finals) but an opportunity to raise funds for the band and guard program! Last year we raised $7,900, and that was a COVID year!
This year, the competition will allow for students to stay and watch other guards, and there will be award retreats at the end of classifications! (That should be good for concession sales!)
BELOW ARE THE SECTION DONATIONS FOR THE JHS BAND & GUARD TCGC FUNDRAISER!

Watch Rehearsals!
Please remember that you are welcome to come in and watch the end of winter guard practices. You can either come in during the last 15 minutes of practice (when they usually do a run-through) or come in earlier and see if there is anything that needs to be done! We always have things that need to be done and truly appreciate parents coming in and lending a helping hand!

Winterguard Fees: $200
This fee covers costs such as unitards, inventory for shoe and glove replacements, competition entries, prop supplies, design and production services, and shared cost of contributing towards production of show, including cost of floors, props and costumes.
Please note that we are able to keep these costs low by 1) contribution from boosters towards costumes and props; and 2) the small amount of funds provided by the district to the overall “band” program. (FYI each color guard costume, whether it be marching band or winter guard, costs on average $200).
You can pay your Winterguard Fee on the band website at https://www.johnsonbands.com/all-products
- If you would like to make arrangements for payments or seek assistance with costs, please feel free to contact Ida Musgrove at president@johnsonbands.com. We do not want costs to prevent any student from participating in guard!
