The Mustang Messenger
September 9th 2022
Greetings Mustang Families!
It was another hot and busy week! It is hard to believe we are halfway through first quarter. Please ask your students about grades and make sure all assignments are turned in and missed assessments are made up. It is important that grades are a reflections of a student's ability and what they have learned in a class. When they are missing grades, this is not always the case.
We are all looking forward to a relief in the weather next week so that students can enjoy more physical activity.
Have a great weekend!
Stay cool and be safe,
Catherine Nicholas, Ed.D.
Progress Reports
Progress Reports will be posted on Infinite Campus (IC) on Monday, September 12th. Progress Reports mark the halfway mark in the quarter and provide an indication of the academic progress a student is making in a course. If you are concerned about your students academic progress, please contact their teacher or counselor.
Low grades are sometimes caused by missing work. Rancho Pico offers after school tutoring to help students who need additional support.
Target Tutors
Math is often the class students struggle the most in. We have advanced math students from West Ranch who come over on Wednesdays and offer free math tutoring from 3:00 to 4:00 in Mrs. McHorney's room, 604. Students from any math level are welcome to come and get support!
Make-up Picture Day
O'Connor Photography will be back on campus on Friday, September 16th from 8 a.m. - 11 a.m. in the MPR to take photos of the students who were unable to get their photo at Summer Check In or started after the beginning of the school year. These photos will also be used for the yearbook and photo packages may still be purchased by parents.
School Pictures Have Arrived
If you ordered school pictures at summer check-in, please ask your student for their picture packet or check their backpack - they have arrived!
Enrichment Opportunities
Enrichment and tutoring started this week. We had Code for Kids, Art Club and Target Tutoring on Wednesday, Robotics and Journalism and Thursday and Monday we will have Speech and Debate and Global Youth Mission (GYM). We will also add more after school tutoring opportunities.
Spaces are limited due to class size and available seats.
PLEASE NOTE: Journalism was changed from Wednesdays to Thursdays, Coding is on Wednesdays and Robotics is on Thursdays.
Lost ID and Lanyards
It is required that students wear IDs everyday to school. Replacement IDs and lanyards can be purchased in the ASB office for $3.00.
Library Activities
Our library is a welcoming place for students to read, play games and study. Our librarian, Mrs. Mccleary, is hosting a variety of activities in the upcoming weeks.
September is Attendence Awareness Month. Students who attend school regularly are able to learn more, have fewer discipline problems, develop better study habits and often are more successful than students who do not. Students who are sick, need to stay home. Students who are out on quarantine, due to COVID, can access their education through Short Term Independent Study. Please call our attendance office at extension 1103 if your student is sick and needs to miss school.
Suicide Prevention Week
Our Wellness Team at Rancho Pico presented to our staff on suicide prevention and all week students participated in activities that help to educate them on the topic. All student ID cards have emergency numbers on the back including the new, three digit suicide hotline number 988.
Think Ahead Thursdays
Rancho Pico students are opportunity Ready!
Students are encouraged to wear a college shirt or a shirt that represents a future career goal on Thursdays. It is great to see all of the college and industry shirts out on campus.
Fridays are Spirit Days and students are encouraged to wear Rancho Pico Spirit wear.
