Summer School 2023 Information
This is general information we felt was important to share with families regarding Summer School 2023 (in the event that you/your student may need to attend) for planning purposes.
Summer School will be offered virtually this year through Edgenuity. Students will not need to come to the school building to complete summer school courses.
Courses will begin on Monday, June 26th and the course completion deadline will be Tuesday, August 8th.
Students MUST have a final average of 50 in a course to be eligible for summer school.
Cost per course: $100.00 per course; $50.00/per course for students who receive free/reduced lunch
Should a student fail a course for the year, the Guidance counselor will reach out to the student/family once they have final grades (beginning on June 20th) to discuss options.
Counselors will not know final grades or summer school eligibility until that date.

MCAS Math Testing
On Tuesday, May 16th and Wednesday, May 17th, all grade 10 Rockland High School students will take the Mathematics portion of the MCAS Exam in the morning. Passing the MCAS Exam is a high school graduation requirement. Test-takers need to bring a charged Chromebook and their power cord to school on the dates of testing. Grade 10 students must be in their assigned exam room on time, no later than 7:55 a.m.
Students not taking the Grade 10 Mathematics MCAS Exam (primarily grades 9, 11, and 12) must report to their first class by 10:38 a.m. (arrive at school, reporting to the cafeteria, starting at 10:30 AM).

Italy Trip
After starting in Rome with the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, and the Vatican, students traveled to small villages and towns such as Matera, Ostuni, and Polignano a Mare in the Puglia region. They learned about the production of buffalo mozzarella, olive oil, and chocolate, swam in the chilly Adriatic Sea, and explored the depths of a Roman amphitheater where gladiators fought. Along the way, they tried all the best Italian foods, practiced some new phrases, and spent a day learning to make their own pasta from scratch!
Spellman Oratorical
On Wednesday, April 26th, the RHS English Department hosted the annual Spellman Oratorical in the Lecture Hall. The theme for this year's Oratorical was:
The Art of Darkness: Evil, Pain, and Enlightenment.
“Evil being the root of mystery, pain is the root of knowledge.”
-Simone Weil
Encounters with evil and pain are inescapable aspects of the human condition. Artists throughout human history have portrayed these experiences in an effort to reflect upon and understand what it means to be a conscious being. Explore how evil and/or pain are portrayed in various works of art, and how these portrayals work to enlighten audiences about essential aspects of humanity.
The prize winners were:
1st - Sydney Blaney - $1200
2nd - Esabella Defilippo - $1000
3rd- Petr Quinn - $700
4th- Celia Jones - $500
5th - Keith Mantell - $300
6th - Matthew Medford, Shelby Bohan, Lina Nassif - $100
