Power Notes--Back to School!
Welcome to a Totally Rad Year!
Vision: At CRMS we create a supportive environment where students achieve academic success, develop life skills, and build confidence for the future!
It's the Final Countdown
We are so very close to the 1st day of another school year. I hope you're ready for a year of learning and fun! We have an 80s/90s theme. We are "throwing back" to some of the foundational skills and practices that worked for kids! We will be heavily focused on Reading, Writing, and Math which will support in all the other areas of their academics. As a wise man once said in the 90s... "This is how we do it!"
1) Car Riders should be dropped off in the area of the staff parking lot. Please do not drive your student to the front door/entrance area. We will have staff located near the staff parking lot (Ms. Blunt, School Counselor) area to welcome your student each day.
2) We ask that you drop off your student/s so that they can enter the building with the rest of their peers. Please take any 1st day photos prior to dropping your student off at school.
3) Middle schoolers ride the bus with high schoolers and the buses are parked halfway between the schools. Please refrain from trying to enter the bus loading/unloading area by vehicle or by foot.
4) Students may bring water bottles. Please consider the size of the bottle and your student's ability to carry it around all day without a backpack.
5) There will be plenty of staff available to escort new students to their classrooms to begin school. During the day staff will be available as well. Administrators walk the hallways to ensure all students are where they need to be for class.
7) Your child will come home with a laptop and contract if he/she is eligible for a laptop. Students are only permitted to carry their laptop bag and a small purse for personal needs. Students do not carry backpacks or other bags, except for a small bag on PE days
8) Breakfast and lunch are available to ALL students for free this school year. Students are still welcome to bring their own lunch from home. It should be kept in their lockers until they are directed to pick it up for lunch time. Teachers will have a scheduled time for students to go to their lockers.
9) Cell phones are allowed at school; however, we strongly encourage students to keep these turned off and in their lockers. If students choose to carry their phones with them, any loss or theft will NOT be the school's responsibility. Administrators will not conduct an investigation.
10) Dress code and all other code of conduct-related behaviors will be enforced. Please be mindful that the school can have different temperatures throughout the building. Light jackets, sweaters, and sweatshirts are encouraged so students can be comfortable no matter where they are in the building. It's easier to "take off" layers to get comfortable.
We want everyone on the same page so we can get this school year off to the best start possible.
1ST DAY OF SCHOOL IS TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 5th

Important Message About Attendance
Good attendance for your student begins on the first day of the school year. Consider the following facts:
Chronic absenteeism may prevent children from reaching early milestones.
Chronically absent students have difficulty keeping up with the pace at which they are expected to learn and grow.
Students who are absent even a day or two every few weeks fall behind their peers.
Irregular attendance can be a better predictor of whether students will drop out before graduation than test scores.
Consistent, on-time attendance is a habit that lasts into adulthood.
In addition to wanting the best possible education for your child, we also closely monitor absences because Maryland law requires that children ages 5-18 attend school. Students may be withdrawn if not attending school regularly; students not enrolled or attending will be considered truant.
How Can Parents Encourage Good Attendance?
Build good attendance habits early so children know that getting to school on time every day is important!
Set a regular bedtime & morning routine, laying out clothes and backpacks the night before.
Avoid scheduling appointments & trips when school is in session.
Don't let your child stay home unless he/she is truly sick.
Consider that sometimes a stomach ache or headache is a sign of anxiety. If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to the school about helpful resources.
