Dear Canyon Vista Parents and Guardians,

The first days of school have been very successful, and I want to thank all of our students, teachers, staff, and parents. It has been wonderful to see students once again, and everyone is doing a great job of learning the ins and outs of virtual learning. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions, concerns, or thoughts. Here's to a great week of school! GO MUSTANGS!

Congratulations on the start of the school year! We are so excited to have each and every one of you as our students! Things will only get easier as we all settle in and find normalcy in the unknown. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your grade level counselor with things that you may need.

Student Schedules

For schedule changes that do not require immediate attention, requests may be submitted through a process and form, which will be available beginning on Friday, August 28th. Please contact your grade level counselor for the form. At that time, the Schedule Change Request form can be electronically submitted to your counselor and considered by a Schedule Change Committee.

We Need Your Help: Library Book Round-Up

We need your help! We are gearing up to serve our students again but more than 350 library books are currently checked out. If you have CVMS Library books at home please bring them to the LIBRARY BOOKS RETURN cart that is outside near the front entrance into the school (the entrance that is accessible via our small parking lot). All CVMS Library books have a barcode on the back cover that states “CANYON VISTA LIBRARY.”

Students can check their own accounts and see what they have checked out by going to the Library Catalog and clicking on the brown “My Account” link at the very top of the page. The username and password are both the student’s six-digit student ID number without the “s” (digits only).

Grab and Go Curbside Service Starts September 3!

The Library’s Grab and Go Curbside Pickup will start on Thursday, September 3. We will offer drive-through pickup in the small parking lot (by the front doors entrance to the school) on Tuesdays from 11:30 a.m-1:00 p.m. and on Thursdays from 4:30 p.m.-6:00 p.m. This presentation will give you lots of details about the program.

Virtual New Student Registration. If you have new neighbors or know anyone who has recently moved into our attendance zone, please pass along this information.

Seventh Grade Parents Who Received Email 08/21/20 to Update Shot Records

Texas has not changed the immunizations due guidelines. I can see how this might be confusing due to Covid and the virtual start of the school year. We have received direction from our District Health Services Director and The Texas Department of State Health Services to continue to follow the normal states requirements for immunizations that are required for students at this time.

We understand that students who are in their homes have a decreased exposure to illnesses. When our current health situation returns to safer levels we want everyone ready to return to campus. And if remaining virtual, that your student is ready to participate in before or after school activities as the school year unfolds. We are definitely in uncharted waters. We want to help parents stay on track with regular vaccines to continue to protect children from vaccine preventable diseases.

Area doctors offices and clinics have put new guidelines in place to protect their patients and families during well child visits. If you are concerned about visiting a doctor's office or clinic during the pandemic providers are encouraging parents to call and speak with them about their concerns. I have been very impressed in particular with Austin Regional Clinics offering well checks on Saturdays for children, along with the health screening of all patients upon entry inside.

Several parents have inquired about what school supplies they should purchase for their child this year, if they didn’t pre-order through the PTA. Here is a list of suggested school supplies for your child, whether they be participating in on-campus or virtual learning from home.

Attached is the Canyon Vista Virtual Learning Schedule and the Red Day/Blue Day calendar. The daily schedule includes 30 minutes of synchronous learning and 1 hour of asynchronous learning per class. We will be on a block schedule, meaning that students will attend four class periods each day. The Red Day/Blue Day Calendar allows you to see which days/dates are Red Days and Blue Days, which will indicate which class periods your student will attend for those days.

Yearbooks were distributed, but if you still have not received yours, contact Missy Sharpe at Melissa_Sharpe@roundrockisd.org to see when you can get your copy. They are available to pick up at the office.

First day of school pictures! Yearbook is looking for first day of school virtual pictures to send in. To submit a photo, please use this Google Form of your student virtually learning to use for a “first day of school” yearbook spread.
