Happy Holidays from your school nurse
December is always a fun and busy month at Sunset School. Many classrooms will have holiday celebrations for the students to enjoy. I am asking you to keep food allergies in mind as the holidays approach. We have many students with food allergies, some causing skin or stomach issues while others are life-threatening. Please contact your child’s teacher or myself for any questions regarding food allergies in your student’s classroom. If your student has food allergies, consider offering alternative snacks for them to enjoy if there are snacks in the classroom that they can not eat. Thank you for working with me to keep all of our students safe. I wish you all the best!

Title One Tidbits
Greetings from your Title 1 Team and many thanks for your continued support and efforts to help young readers grow!
Before we go to Christmas Break, we'll be assessing all students at Sunset to measure mid-year reading growth. We'll start on Friday, December 2nd and continue for a couple of weeks into December. Encourage your students to come to school rested and ready to be a reading superstar!
When our break begins and your student is home or traveling with you, consider some of the ideas in the links listed below. Whether managing busy holiday schedules or trying to keep literacy skills sharp, we hope these ideas will inspire.

Reading Fun!
Each month Sunset School hosts a special visitor, Miss Holly, children’s librarian at the Park County Public Library. Miss Holly visits Sunset School to read to our kindergarteners through 3rd graders, respectively.
Each visit has a theme, usually requested by the classroom teachers, to complement what they’re doing. Examples include kindness, perseverance, opinion sharing, and fluency. Her goal is to make her visits, and more broadly, BOOKS, something everyone will look forward to – avid readers as well as those who struggle. She attempts this primarily through material selection, and includes a simple, related craft project that everyone will have success with and truly enjoy. Sometimes there is even a small related snack! And of course, it’s a great opportunity to learn about libraries and all they offer!
