A Note from Mrs. Pitts
Dear RES Families and Supporters,
As we finish a year of celebration, we wanted to send a heartfelt thank you to the Rye 400 Committee for all of their support. Due to their planning and support, we have experienced, trolly rides, learning from the one and only, Dan Brown, received donations for our playground and field trips to the Seacoast Science Center, learned about Native American culture and received art lessons from the talented Todd Bonita. We have also been able to participate in community events that allowed Mrs. Pitts to participate in her first dunk tank and see our own students' ornaments hang on the tree. We have had a few RES teachers who have supported these endeavors as well and we are so appreciative of their efforts. We are thankful for all that this year-long celebration did to enrich our lives!
Have a great weekend,
Michelle Pitts, RES Principal

Environmental Club Survey: Written by Students!
This year's Environmental Club would like input into their projects this year. They came up with this short survey and would be grateful for your participation. Please be sure to mark what your role is in the school. We are hoping to get students, parents, and staff feedback. Thank you so much for your help and thoughtful consideration.

Lesson About Poison Control
In World Language/Health classes with second grade students we have been having discussions about medicine safety learning terms in both Spanish and English. This week we discussed and learned the phone number for Poison Control. 1- 800 - 222- 1222 Students were given stickers or magnets to take home. Please post these somewhere visible in your home and reinforce, as we have in the classroom, WHEN and WHO should call 911 or Poison control.
Generally it would be adults making the phone calls.
Poison Control 1 - 800 - 222 - 1222
Emergency situations 911
Thank you,
Ms. Piper (World Language)
Mrs. Warden (Health & PE)

Spanish Play: Third Grade Families, Mark Your Calendar!
Queridas familias,
Each third grade class will perform their own rendition of "La Pequeña Gallina Roja" (The Little Red Hen in Spanish!) on Friday, January 5th from 8:30 AM - 9:00 AM in room 131. Families are welcome to attend! For those who cannot make it, no worries! I will aim to send home a recording and/or pictures.
In the event of a weather related cancellation, we will not have a snow date for this performance and will choose to record the production instead.
Our play has a unique student created ending that promotes kindness and generosity. All third graders have acting roles and/or production roles. Please encourage your third grader to practice their Spanish lines. Every third grader has speaking lines to practice!
As always, thank you for your support at home!
Cordialmente,
Señora Piper

Message From Superintendent, Dr. Zadravec
As you may be aware, the NH Secretary of State recently announced that the Presidential Primary will take place on Tuesday, January 23rd. Since voting takes place in our schools, this will now become a No School day for students. The changes have been made on our school calendars, which can be found on our website here.
Sincerely,
Steve Zadravec
What does this mean for conferences and report cards?
Teachers will reach out to you in an effort to coordinate this one year shift in our conference schedule. Teachers will act as a team to coordinate conferences on January 23 with a follow up conversation i the spring, if needed OR they will reach out to coordinate a time in March but it will not be on March 12, as that will be a full day professional development day for all staff in the SAU 50!

Priced at just $10, each beautiful ornament serves a greater purpose - thanks to support from the Rye Education Foundation and Rye 400 Committee for materials, all proceeds will go towards funding field trips for our eighth-grade students.
To order, please send an envelope with $10 cash to the front office at RES or RJH with your name and email address. There are several designs to choose from! You may also email Kate Morrison (kmorrison@sau50.org) to assist with the purchase of your ornament.

December Tidbits
Gifts of Our Community Assembly
Families can attend the 8:30 AM assembly on December 8. This is the event that all family members will be invited to attend during the day.
Holiday Parties
Parties: When planning, keep in mind the following recommendations from the Wellness Committee for all parties:
• one store bought treat with label
• one or two healthy snacks (a great way to get creative with colorful fruits and vegetables)
• one moving activity (relay race, tossing, balancing, wrapping friends in toilet paper)
• one artistic craft as an option
• keep in mind RES efforts to reduce, reuse and recycle
*We do ask that room parents/guardians email Lori Flint all food choices a week ahead so there are no surprises and Mrs. Flint can process whether these are safe for all students in a particular class. Please email her if you have questions! lflint@sau50.org
Mall in the Hall
Below is a link to the Mall in the Hall. We are sending this to families this year so you might have some context into this school-wide event.

This Week's Highlights
First Place Winners: The Rye 400
Rye recently had its 400th anniversary holiday parade. These RES students had a float in the parade and won first place! The girls were 'Sno-Angels' who escort the elf-on-the-shelf to the North Pole every night. Even the harsh New England weather could not dampen the Sno-Angel's Christmas spirit. They won first place!
Art Class: The Snow is Coming!
A Holiday Message for Us All!

Lunch with Students
We do allow one family member at a time to have lunch with their child(ren) but this is very optional and we don't want families to feel pressured to attend.
- Email resoffice@sau50.org if you would like to attend with the date/time (starting October 1). It is important to anticipate who will be in the building. We love these opportunities for students and their family members but we will always put safety first.
- We do have a focus during this time...eating for energy and brain power!
- Family members must meet the child in the cafeteria and leave from the cafeteria.
- Lunch times are:
Kindergarten-11:45-12:10
First Grade-12:15-12:40
Second Grade-12:15-12:40
Third Grade- 11:15-11:40
Fourth Grade-11:15-11:40
