SHES Weekly Update
August 5th, 2022

Updates for the Week of September 12 - September 16, 2022
Dear Shadow Hills Families,
We made it through the extreme weather! Thank you all for your flexibility during the daily changes. I hope you were able to receive an email or text from me letting you know the changes. Please call the front office and update your communication preferences if you did not. The forecast looks like we will return to our regularly scheduled days this week.
Students are finishing up their i-Ready diagnostic tests this week. Please ensure students bring their devices to school fully charged. We reached out to some families this week to complete their insurance paperwork. Your child cannot have a Chromebook checked out to them without it. Please let the front office know if you are unsure about the process, and we will help guide you.
I hope everyone could pause today, September 11, to remember the men and women who have dedicated their lives to protecting our country and its values. From our troops at home and abroad to our first responders. We are thankful for their sacrifice and commitment all year round.
I look forward to seeing you all. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Meris
Character Education
Here at school, we have been very busy learning about respect, what it means, why it’s important and how to do it! Learning happens best when it is done both at school and at home. Below are many ways that you can help your child continue to learn about the theme of respect through reading about it, talking about it, and practicing it! We have really enjoyed exploring this topic at school, and I hope your family will enjoy it just as much!
Reading About It
Here are some books to help you learn more respect:
Practice It!
Think about the specific needs and preferences of everyone in your house. Make a list. Spend one week together trying to be mindful of each other’s needs and wants. Talk about the effects this experiment has on your family.
Talk About It!
Here are some discussion points to help you talk about respect with your child:
- What do you think it means to be respectful and why is it important?
- What are some ways you can be more respectful at home, at school and in the community?
- Are there any ways that you would like me to be more respectful to you?
- What are some reasons it can be hard to be respectful?
A Message From Your PTA

Chromebooks
- Chromebook Pick Up - If you have not gotten an opportunity to get a Chromebook, please complete the insurance paperwork linked below and give it to your child's teacher. We will then coordinate the Chromebook pick up.
- Chromebook Insurance Form and Agreement - Please click here for the 2022-2023 Chromebook Protection Plan and Guidelines. Each student must have one of these forms filled out, payment received, and signed before receiving a Chromebook to take home.
Water Bottles
- Water bottles - It is extremely important that your child brings a water bottle to school DAILY. We do have multiple water bottling filling stations on-site to refill their bottles.
Volunteers
If you are planning on volunteering this school year, please fill out our Volunteer Packet and return it to the Shadow Hills office.
