2021 English Learner Summer School Guidance and FAQ
Local Education Agencies (LEAs) have been provided with guidance on the required summer school program for English learners who are entering kindergarten or grade 1. Please ensure to go through the information provided as it contains requirements, delivery, and logistical considerations as well as FAQ's.

The English learner FAQ includes important information regarding English Learner Program Services as well as LPAC procedures and English learner reclassification. Please take the time to look over the guidance for important TEA-released information.
20-21 End of Year LPAC Guidance
As the end of the year is approaching and you are preparing for the EOY LPAC's, please ensure the LPAC members are familiarized with the end of the year LPAC guidance procedures regarding the reclassification of English learners, program exit requirements, and parent notification of progress.
** A reminder that ALL LPAC required members must be present when conducting LPAC meetings, and while TEA has allowed for LEAs to incorporate the required LPAC parent representative in an optional capacity, their participation is highly encouraged.
Updated 2020-2021 English Learner Reclassification Criteria and Guidance
Districts, please ensure to follow the recently updated English learner reclassification criteria as it contains important updated information on Reclassification Allowances for Individual Students.
**LPACs should use this guide as EOY and summer LPAC meetings take place to ensure compliance with decisions made in regards to English learners.

2020-2021 English Learner Recalssification Guidance
LPAC - May Activities
- Send Parental Report on Student Progress.
- Send Parental Notification and Approval of Exit.
- Conduct a comprehensive Bilingual/ESL Annual Program Evaluation (present to the school board, if denoted in local board policy).
- Create program evaluation and update improvement plans to determine professional development and program needs.
- Schedule/conduct EOY LPAC meetings for participating ELs, parent denials, and monitored ELs.
- Plan, recruit, and conduct required summer school program from grades PK and Kinder
- Review teacher certifications, credentials, and renewal certifications.
- Program planning for the following school year.
Ongoing Activities
- LPAC for any new enrollees within 4 calendar weeks.
- Monitor linguistic and academic progress.
- On-going collaboration with special programs such as Special Education, Advance Academics-Gifted and Talented, etc. to ensure student success.
- PEIMS up-to-date and accurate
- On-going professional development.
