Week of Aug 28-Sept 1 Parent Letter

Thank you parents for supporting your scholars daily. Our scholars are very important to all our staff. This is our last week of August. Our scholars are on Energy Bus of Success. Thank you for ensuring that your scholars is on time and at school everyday. Our campus goal daily is attendance 98%. This Thursday, we will host Chatting with the Principal at 8:00 am and 3:30 pm in outside Annex. Please join us so we can get to know each other better. There is no school on Monday September 4 which is Labor Day. School resumes September 5 at 7:30 am.

If your scholar was invited for afterschool Mustang Academy, it is every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30-4:30 with your scholar's teacher. Our cafeteria will provide snacks for scholars who attend. Pick up by parents will be at 4:30. There will be no bus available. Thank you for supporting your scholar for this additional intervention time.

To plan ahead, our Fall Intercession Mustang University Camp will be October 2-5 from 8:00-12:30 with lunch provided. Please place these dates in your calendar in case your scholar is invited.

School Office Closes Daily at 4:00 PM

Parents, thank you for ensuring your scholars complete their entire school day. Please try and schedule doctor appointments after 3:15 in advance. We are seeing many scholars getting pulled out earlier in the day. Our scholars are missing instruction and sometimes part of their test if they are taken out earlier. We appreciate in advance all your support with this concern. Our front clerk will have an information card at the front office where parents will sign out scholars. After the third sign out early, parents will need to meet with an administrator on an intervention plan. Thank you again for all your support with this very important area of concern.

Our new HD Hilley Spirit Shirts are on sale this week for only $10. We will be selling them before and afterschool. Come by the front office to purchase. Your scholar may wear it any day as part of their uniform. Celebrate with our staff our new theme shirt.

PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU ARE SIGNED UP FOR THE YEAR WITH YOUR SCHOLAR'S TEACHER. THIS IS WHERE OUR SCHOOL AND TEACHERS COMMUNICATE WITH PARENTS.

PK/Kinder- 7:45-8:45

First Grade: 8:45-9:45

Second Grade: 9:45-10:45

Third Grade: 12:00-1:00

Fourth Grade: 1:00-2:00

Fifth Grade: 2:00-3:00

We have started a cafeteria initiative to support scholar behavior. Dining with Dignity is our focus where our scholars are walking safely in the cafeteria, raising their hand, using inside voices, no running, and respecting each others space where they are eating. If the scholars receive the Maximum Mustang Points every day, they will have extended lunch on Mondays with 10 minutes more to eat and play. This also includes their teacher. We are practicing our 4 B's at HD Hilley.

Our scholars will be allowed to invite two grandparents only for to our Grandparents' Day Dance. It will be on September 8 during your scholar's PE time. It is $3.00 for scholars but FREE for their two grandparents. Each scholar will receive two tickets. We will not allow siblings from other grade levels to join due to capacity. Grandparents will need to come back to the siblings PE time. These are the PE Times:

Kinder- 7:55-8:45

First- 8:45-9:35

Second- 10:25-11:15

Third 12:30-1:20

Fourth- 1:20-2:10

Fifth- 2:10-3:00

• Friendly reminder that safety is a priority at HD Hilley. Please adhere to the cross walks, follow the school zones, and parking safely. The front parking is still for parents The first day of school only you may walk your scholar to class.
• Thank you for ALWAYS bringing your ID to the front office when checking out your scholar. Please also ensure that our office has all needed documentation on file of any special parental cases regarding custody or other. Our school is not a court system that makes custodial decisions. Our campus follows any count ordered documentation on file.

Parents, thank you again for your amazing patience with our morning arrival and dismissal. A few friendly reminders:

• Please remember that are front parking is for parents and visitors. Thank you for parking in this area.
• Our front drop off and pick up has TWO LANES. Please use them both to move our traffic quicker.
• Please use the new front cross walk when crossing from the parking lot to the school. We want to keep everyone safe.
• Thank you for not getting off your car when in line. We will assist you with opening your doors and taking your scholar to you afterschool.
• Please drive with caution especially when entering and exiting the gate. Our officers are there to support and keep everyone safe.
• Our front office staff is not in the office until 7:30 or after. If you have registration or attendance questions, you will need to wait for Ms. Marlen Gonzalez our PEIMS Clerk to arrive. Our front office clerk Ms. Delgadillo will be there to assist you.
• Parents, please support our morning arrival by dropping off your scholars at the door. Our parents are not allowed in the building once our scholars are inside. Our staff can assist you at the door to bring your child inside.

PLEASE REVIEW UNIFORM EXPECTATIONS. THIS WILL BE INFORCED BY THE END OF THE FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL. PLEASE SEE MS. BEBON OUR COUNSELOR IF YOU NEED ASSISTANCE WITH UNIFORMS OR SCHOOL SUPPLIES. SHE IS ALWAYS WILLING TO SUPPORT OUR FAMILIES.

Our HD Hilley Fall Festival is a few months away. It will be November 3 from 4:30-7:30. Tickets will go on re-sale the week before. If interested, we will be renting out tables this year for $100 each for any one who would like to sell any items. No game booths for vendors only food items or other items you would like to sell for your business. Our teachers work hard to create games and need to fundraise for their classes. Please see the front office if you are interested in renting a table. It will be worth it!

You are welcome to join us on Tuesday August 29 at 1:30 pm in our parent center We will have a presenter providing information on how to become a home owner. Join us to learn more.

Parents!! Please join our leadership team and Ms. Perez, our Science Fair Coordinator, on Thursday August 31, at our outside school Annex at 4:00 pm. We will be providing Science Fair Information to support you and your scholar this school year. Any parent who attends will receive a Free Dress Pass for their scholar and hours to support their scholar's teacher this school year. See you there!

My name is Darlene Hernandez, HD Hilley Principal. This is my second year as your principal at this amazing campus. I have 25 years in education. I taught for 7 years in the Dallas/Fort Worth as a bilingual teacher. I returned back to El Paso and taught in Ysleta ISD for 8 more years as a Dual Language Teacher. I was promoted as a campus/district instructional coach for two of those years in Ysleta ISD as well. I started my administrative journey in Socorro ISD as an assistant principal at Chester Jordan Elementary for four years and Sgt. Jose Carrasco Elementary for four more years where I was the original team who opened that new school in 2018. As I reach my 10th year as an administrator in Socorro ISD, I am extremely grateful and proud to continue serving this amazing community at HD Hilley Elementary. I want your scholars to be successful in all their learning. We have the golden ticket with our dedicated and very experienced team of teachers. Our school culture is the utmost important item to me because it supports both a positive teaching and learning environment that a success school needs to have each year. It is important to me to maintain positive and transparent relationships with our staff and parents. Safety is a huge part of HD Hilley's Mission this school year. All our school staff and scholars have a right to feel safe in this learning environment. Thank you for giving me an opportunity to serve this amazing HD Hilley Community. I look forward to many more years as a Mustang.

Please consider volunteering at HD Hilley this school year. We are looking for two volunteer parents per classroom. Please fill out the volunteer form in the link below. PARENTS, WE WILL START AFTERSCHOOL BASKETBALL AT HD HILLEY IN SEPTEMBER AFTER LABOR DAY WEEKEND. OUR COACHES WILL BE ASKING SCHOLARS WHO ARE INTESTED IN GRADES 2-5 FOR THE FALL THIS IS BOYS OR GIRLS. WE HOPE TO AT LEAST HAVE 8-10 TEAMS. WE NEED YOU PARENTS TO HELP US VOLUNTEER TO SUPPORT OUR MUSTANGS IN STARTING THIS SPORT EARLY AND LEARN SPORTMANSHIP. PRACTICES WILL BE ONCE A WEEK FOR ONE HOUR AND GAMES ALSO WILL BE FOR ONLY ONE HOUR ONCE A WEEK. ONE WEEK PRACTICE AND THE NEXT WEEK THE GAME. THIS IS ONLY IN HOUSE IN OUR OWN GYMS. PLEASE CONSIDER. Please review HD Hilley's Bus Routes in the link below. Make sure that you let your scholar's teacher know if your scholar will be walking, taking the bus, day care, or picked up. Our 2023-24 Attendance Plan is also provided below. Please review all Attendance Expectations this school year. Communicate all absences with our office and your teacher. More importantly make sure you have a note for each absence. We will be monitoring attendance very closely this school year. IMPORTANT- PINK CARDS ARE FOR PRE-K 4 AND KINDER SCHOLARS ONLY. PARENTS KEEP THEM SO THEY CAN USE THEM AS IDENTIFICATION WHEN THEY PICK UP STUDENTS IN BUS DROP OFF POINTS.
