Straight from the Hardt
Hello Ridgeline Families-- All this sunshine we’ve been enjoying has been a real treat…may it never end! Let’s get right to important information
Drop everything for next week because it’s HOMECOMING! Spirit days are identified in the newsletter. We’ll have a kick-off assembly on Monday, that’s always a good time. It’s a short academic week due to NO School Friday the 13th, for Teacher Learning Improvement Day. We hope many of our students stick around town for the football game vs UHigh Friday night, and of course the dance on Saturday night! The Homecoming court will be revealed at the football game!
Ridgeline High School just started our “Accreditation” process with the state. Here’s the working definition: “Accreditation is a voluntary process for granting public recognition to institutions that meet external standards of quality. It is a process a school undertakes to create a valid, credible reputation among fellow institutions, students and the public.” So…we’re striving for a “credible reputation”! More than that it creates a mechanism to be reflective about the work we’re doing and progress our students are making over time. Future input from parents and students is a component of the process.
You have been receiving messages from Superintendent, Dr. Parker recently about opportunities to learn more about the future of school projects in CVSD. This is an important topic and the construction of Ridgeline High School is a perfect example of the importance of maintaining high quality schools that are up-to-date and not over-crowded. All of us who live or work from Greenacres to the State Line can quickly see that our growth is going to continue to be significant and additional schools will need to be considered. At the same time across the district we have some buildings that truly are in dire need of a remodel or rebuild. If you have some time to attend in person or listen in via zoom, see the dates and times below.
ASL teachers, Mr. Nathan Paul & Ms. Sondra Willmann showcased their students work as they used various forms of art to symbolize some of the challenges of living life as a deaf person. Students did some amazing work with these interpretive pieces. I’m pictured here with Mr. Paul and senior, Ariel Cline. Students from Mr. Paul and Mrs. Willmann’s ASL classes helped evaluate each others work, provide feedback, and vote on their top 5.
Make it a great weekend everyone! --Mr. Hardt
Message from Mr. LeGrant
RHS Student Drop-Off MORNINGS only:
Mr. LeGrant, Office Howard & SRO Lee have provided another morning drop-off route for parents. Parents you can utilize the bus loop on the south side of the building for drop off between 7:30-7:45am. The main valet line in front of the school is still available for morning drop-off as well.
To access the bus loop, drivers are asked to use Henry Lane on the east side of our building and travle to the last parking lot driveway at the south end of the parking lot. You will then drive into the bus loop and drop off your student.
Please note: school buses use the bus loop prior to 7:30am in the morning.
Student Services
Do you have a student interested in a construction trade?...
If you answered "yes" to the question above or simply wish to give your student the opportunity to learn more about the careers available in the construction trades, there is trades fair on Thursday, October 12, at Ferris High School from 5:00 - 8:00 PM. In addition to being introduced to career opportunities in the construction trades, attendees will have the opportunity to see and use tools and equipment used in the construction trades. If your student is interested, please have the student register, using the registration tab in the attached link.
The Washington Student Achievement Council (WSAC) is a cabinet-level state agency with a leading role in increasing Washington state’s post-secondary degree attainment. A significant aspect of the Council’s work involves student financial aid, and they will begin communicating this week with students and families about opportunities available to you and your students. So, be on the look-out for their messaging!
Boise State University admission counselor, Donya Gadley, will be at RHS on Thursday, October 12, during 6th period (1:25). To attend the visit, juniors and seniors are invited to complete the registration Mr. Spraggins sent out via Google Classroom. Registration and signed passes will be required to attend. To attend the visit, juniors and seniors are invited to complete the registration Mr. Spraggins sent out via Google Classroom. Registration and signed passes will be required to attend. The College Success Foundation is an organization that operates to coach and support students (especially those from low socioeconomic backgrounds) to get to and through post-secondary education. One significant aspect of the organization’s work involves scholarships. The Foundation opened three of its scholarships this week:
- The Leadership 1000 Scholarship,
- The Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship, and
- The Governor’s Scholarship for Foster Youth.
Each of these scholarships and others that will open later in the year are available on the Foundation’s website.
RHS partners with several local school districts to offer a list of "local" scholarships (translation: scholarships your students have a better chance of winning) for which students can apply. That scholarship list is located under the Financial Aid & Scholarships tab on the Counseling & Careers section of the RHS website.
The College Tour
Visiting a college or university campus is, far and away, the most influential factor in making a college selection if attending college after graduation is the path your student wishes to take. Unfortunately, most of us don't have the time or resources to access all the campuses we would like. For that reason, The College Tour is an excellent next best thing to learning about some colleges and universities.
The College Tour is a 10-season television program, offering 30-minute videos on a wide variety of schools. Take some time to explore the link below, as I expect you and your student will find a variety of schools that may be of interest
WA GAP?... Is this too good to be true?
By now, many junior and senior parents/guardians and students have received messages from the Council of Presidents, alerting them to students’ automatic admission to six Washington public four-year colleges/universities. Some of you have wondered if this is too good to be true (translation: a scam). The WA GAP is a legitimate automatic admission program that was implemented three years ago by the Council of Presidents and the participating WA four-year institutions. Succinctly stated, students with 3.0 cumulative GPAs or higher and CADR completion are automatically admissible to the institutions listed. If you have questions about the program, please contact Mr. Spraggins (bspraggins@cvsd.org).

The Importance of being Earnest... coming soon!
Ridgeline High School Theatre is thrilled to be preparing our fall production,
The Importance of Being Earnest. This play tells the story of two young gentlemen in London, who each live a double-life, creating elaborate deceptions to find some balance in their lives. Oscar Wilde's brilliant comedy details the comical antics of the two gentlemen as well as their love interests, while balancing the desire for social conformity with the desire to love who they wish and live how they want. Performances are November 15, 16, 17, and 18.
Ridgeline’s ASL II students have been learning about De’VIA! De’VIA represents Deaf artists and perceptions based on their life experiences. Using empathy, Ridgeline students have created an original art piece to represent their worldview from a Deaf perspective. A De’VIA art gallery has been set up in the Library for students to view and discuss over hot cocoa and apple cider.

The Graphic Arts students wanted to get in on promoting the Homecoming Week events, so they tried their first hand at graphic design by creating Hoco Flyers with Adobe Photoshop. Great work, Falcons!
