Weekly Update June 9, 2023
Head Cheetahs Message Last Message Of The 2022-2023 School Year
Families,
Memorial School was OVERFLOWING with celebrations this week! We enjoyed Kindergarten shows, Smart Start Graduation, Grade 3 Stepping Up Ceremonies, and the Bellringer Walk. In addition to all of the celebrations, our newly minted FOURTH graders took a trip to Center School to check out their new school. All of the excitement was bittersweet, as we will say “goodbye” to many of our learners on Tuesday. We wish everyone a safe, happy summer. Stay safe, have fun, and don’t forget to check out our summer reading, math, and fitness challenges. They can be found on the school website: https://www.easthamptonps.org/o/memorial-school
Best,
Joey and Andrea
Cheetahs In Action
This month students are learning about CONFIDENCE. We are teaching, modeling and encouraging students to feel sure of themselves and their abilities. It is that quiet inner knowledge that they are capable of soaring!
Kindergarten Show
Our Kindergarten students sang about all they’ve learned this year, and proved just how ready they are for first grade!
Grade 3 Stepping Up Ceremonies
Congratulations to all of our Grade FOUR students! On Thursday, they officially became Center School Lions! We will miss you!
Smart Start Graduation
Bellringer Walk
On Wednesday, our Graduating Seniors came back to Memorial School to take one more look at where it all began! Our third graders led the procession as the seniors paraded through the halls. Memorial’s students and staff cheered them all on.
Rookie Teacher of the Year
Erin Basile, Grade 2 Teacher at Memorial School is the East Hampton Rookie Teacher for 2023. Though she is a newer teacher in our school district, Erin is no rookie to teaching. Erin was nominated by numerous parents and staff members who indicated that “she has left and undeniable and unforgettable memorable mark on each of her students.” Her own sense of calmness, empathy, and compassion leads to a focus on kindness and caring for each other in her classroom. With wonderful communication skills, parents feel like they are partners in her classroom and attribute her achievement with the fact that she ensures that all students with a variety of needs are successful in her inclusive classroom.
Erin approaches every day with an effectiveness in the classroom that has its foundation in professional dedication, innovative teaching methods, and a passion for children.
Congratulations Erin!
Pawsitive Office Referral
A PAWsitive office referral is submitted when a staff member recognizes a student who is going above and beyond to exemplify one of our three school rules - taking care of others, taking care of self, & taking care of things.
Order Of The Cheetah
This week we recognize Mrs. Gould, a paraprofessional, and Mrs. Lemire, our nurse assistant, as the Orders Of The Cheetah. Mrs. Gould cares about the students she supports and is always willing to help support her colleagues. Mrs. Lemire does an amazing job helping our students feel better when they are ill or hurt.
Garden Club
Today we celebrated the last day of garden club by harvesting lettuce, kale, and flowers. It has been a pleasure having children enjoy working and learning all about gardening.

Library and Literacy News
Memorial School is so excited to kick off our summer reading program!
As a school community we applaud all you have done to support your child’s engagement and learning this school year. As we approach the gifts of summer, and a well-deserved break, it will be critically important for your learner to continue to grow as an independent reader, and to recognize reading as one of the many positive life choices they can make.
In an effort to maintain students’ level of reading independence and prevent summer reading loss, we are encouraging all students to set summer reading goals.
For K-3rd Graders
In library classes from June 1st-June 12th, readers will be discussing goals and receiving their summer reading log. This log should be returned in the fall and readers who turn it in will be invited to participate in a special reading celebration.
In the classroom, students also has a special visit from public children’s librarian, Ms. Christine, to hear about all the exciting things the East Hampton Public Library has to offer this summer. We hope that you take advantage of the amazing programing and book selection available to enhance your child’s summer reading experience.

Summer Math 2023
Dear Memorial Families,
As we near the end of the school year, we want to make you aware of the various opportunities the district will be offering over the summer months in order to support your learner’s continued engagement with mathematics. We recognize there are many summer activities for students to support their needs. With participation in any of the activities, your child will be able to maintain their math skills over the summer months. Your support in this initiative is greatly appreciated.
