It was so wonderful to have almost 500 folks attend our “Snow Much Fun” event on Tuesday night! Because we were only expecting about 300 based on the original RSVPs we had received, our biggest challenges of the night were not having enough “grown up” chairs to sit in and running out of hot chocolate. I couldn’t have wished for better problems!

From decades of research, we know that one of the most important factors impacting a child’s education is parental involvement. While drinking tepid hot chocolate (if we still hadn’t run out yet) and constructing a “snowman” from paper and tape may not have seemed like much, it will echo in the hearts and minds of your kids for years to come. Please keep that in mind not only with these school-sponsored family events but also in the quiet evenings spent reading with your kids or talking to them about all of the cool things they learn here each day. You are making a huge difference!

With no school on Friday (12/9), you may want to have a little more “me time” this upcoming weekend. What better way than to drop your child(ren) off at MVES for our PTO-sponsored Movie Matinee?!? Speaking of our PTO, we will have our next monthly PTO meeting at 5:15 in the cafeteria on Thursday, December 15. It is open to everyone with a student here and is a great opportunity to make Mountain View more of a community school. Kindergarten won the food drive and their reward was a dance party with Mr. Miller and Ms. McCrea.

On December 21 each grade level will be participating in a holiday singalong during their specials time. This is NOT a performance just an opportunity for our kiddos to sing together. If you play a C instrument (guitar, piano, ukulele, flute, violin etc) and would like to play along with us for your child's grade level email Mrs. Enke at jenke@rockingham.k12.va.us to sign up and get specific times and copies of the music. Thanks!

Movie Day has almost arrived! TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO REGISTER!

Here are some final details for Saturday:

Please park in the bus loop (in one of the diagonal spots) on the west side of the building and walk your students in through Door #2 (under the bus entrance canopy) to check them in anytime between 1pm-1:30pm. Students get to pick which movie they would like to watch (Cars or Ratatouille)!

Students should bring with them a closable water bottle and a towel or blanket to sit on.

After a few games and crafts, the students will have some time to use the restroom, wash hands, pick up some popcorn and snacks (nut-free, gluten-free, dairy-free), and then spread out their blankets to watch their selected movie in either the gym or cafeteria.

At the conclusion of the movies, everyone will help clean up, have a chance to use the restroom and wash hands, and then we have a few more games and activities.

You may pick up your child between 3:30pm-4pm. Once again, please enter through Door #2 to pick up your student(s). A PTO volunteer will assist in that process!

Please be sure to turn in any unsold Attractions Books as soon as possible.

We are glad to have parents join their children for lunch; however you must contact the school or your child’s teacher before you come. There is limited seating and we want to make sure there is enough room. Currently we are only able to accommodate 1 parent per class and seating is available in our cafeteria courtyard.

If your child is going to be absent from school, please call the office at 540-438-1965 or email mvesattendance@rockingham.k12.va.us. If you are planning to take a vacation or your child will be out of school for an extended period of time, please contact the office. Thank you!

The parent portal is an online portal accessible anywhere on the web that parents can log in to and see all of their children in one place, their grades, assignments, scores, attendance, schedules, and teacher comments for each school your children attend.

Parents need to contact the school to get access information to create an account in PowerSchool.

Free and Reduced Meal Applications are now available for the 21-22 school year. Although all children are currently eligible to receive free breakfast and lunch meals during the school day, completing a meal application is still recommended if you believe you qualify. The qualification letter that is sent back to the household can be used for proof of eligibility for other program benefits and discounts, such as the Emergency Broadband Benefit. To apply, please complete the online meal application at www.myschoolapps.com, or fill out the attached application and return to your child's school or mail to: Food and Nutrition Services, 1210 N.
