Senior Conferences
In the coming weeks, the counselors at Smithfield High School will be scheduling individual senior conferences. In these sessions, we will discuss graduation and SOL requirements as well as post-secondary options. If you would like to attend the individual conference with your student, please contact the appropriate counselor to schedule a specific day and time by October 13, 2023. If you do not wish to attend, we will meet with your student individually and ask that they share all of the information with you. We are very excited about the upcoming year and look forward to the 2024 Graduation! Ms. Hynes - Last names A-J 757-357-8781; Ms. Booth - Last names K-Z 757-357-8780
Thank a Teacher Art Contest
Each year through the Thank a Teacher campaign, the Virginia Lottery encourages students, parents and the general public to send thank-you notes to Virginia’s deserving public school teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week. Since 2016, winning teachers have been prized with Virginia vacations, gift cards and money for their school.
Now is the time to submit artwork. We are looking for three students to have their artwork featured on thousands of thank-you notes to be distributed during Teacher Appreciation Week in May.
The contest is open to all K-12 students enrolled in one of Virginia’s public schools (not just art students!). One top-prize winner will be selected from each level: elementary school, middle school and high school. The three winners will see their artwork featured on the 2024 thank-you notes. They’ll also receive a $200 Visa® gift card and win $2,000 in supplies for their school’s art department from the Lottery and our valuable partners at The Supply Room.
Submissions will be accepted now through November 13, 2023. For more information about the Thank a Teacher Art Contest, including official rules, eligibility and entry requirements, visit www.ThankaTeacherVA.com.
Updated Bus Routes and Change to How Routes are Shared
The Transportation Department for Isle of Wight County Schools is sharing the most recent bus route for your child's school. Please review the attached routes to identify any revisions to the schedule.
In addition, a review of our current practices recommends the division no longer post bus routes online. Bus routes no longer appear on the Transportation page. IWCS takes the safety and security of every child in our care very seriously and will always err on the side of caution with decisions involving students.
Going forward, questions about bus routes should be directed to your child's school or the IWCS Transportation Department, at 757-357-9920, or through their Let's Talk link on our website.
Routes will continue to be emailed to families through Connect 5 at the beginning of the school year and when significant changes occur.
