Elm Street School
Update
May 29, 2020
Message from the Superintendent
Dear Elm Families,
I hope this update finds you well! Student report cards for Term 2 will be made available for families to view by accessing the Aspen Family Portal on Friday, June 19th. Instructions for logging into your account to view your child(ren)'s report card will be provided at that time. To more effectively communicate student progress to families in this unique learning environment, report cards will take a narrative format using a newly created form. The narrative template developed by grade level teachers addresses essential standards and are consistent across the grade level. Art, Music and Physical Education teachers have also developed common narratives addressing essential standards. Next year, we anticipate returning to the traditional standards based report card.
Thank you,
Carrie Ruggiero /Principal
Elm Street School Summer Send-Off and Student Belongings Pick-Up
We miss you all so much at Elm! We would like an opportunity to send our students off to summer vacation with a warm smile and a wave good-bye. We would also like to make sure students receive their belongings. Please see the specific date and time for each grade level to come to Elm! We are especially looking forward to wishing our 5th graders well as they transition to middle school. We kindly ask that all parents/guardians follow the procedures outlined below to ensure the health and safety of everyone.
Student Belongings Pick Up Procedures
1.Please enter the front loop by the main entrance during your specific grade level time. We will be following the same procedure during normal school arrival.
2. Please DO NOT EXIT YOUR VEHICLE. Pop open the trunk of your vehicle.
3. Please place a sign in the passenger side window of your vehicle with your child’s LAST NAME. Please ensure that the writing can be seen from a distance.
4. Please place any school borrowed library books or teacher borrowed books and/or materials in the trunk of your car prior to coming to school. We will retrieve them when you pop your trunk. Students do not need to return borrowed chromebooks at this time.
5. A staff member of the grade level team will approach your car, confirm the nametag, retrieve and place student belongings into your trunk. Mrs. Newman will be at the school to return any medication that students had in the nurse’s office. Staff members will be wearing masks and gloves throughout the distribution process.
6. Please exit the same way you would at arrival/ dismissal. We are working hard to follow the recommended social distancing guidelines during this scheduled time. Please refrain from socializing and maintain the recommended distance from others during this time.
Most importantly, we can not wait for another opportunity to connect with our students!
WPS Summer Learning Program
We are excited to offer a new program for our K-8 students this summer. The WPS Summer Learning Program will provide grade-level teaching and support in a remote setting at no cost to interested families. The program will include approximately 3-5 hours of instruction per week with qualified staff blending live digital meetings with independent work time.
This is a great opportunity for students to continue developing their skills and help them prepare for a strong start in September while having some fun along the way. The program will run from July 7-July 30 and is open to all students currently in grades K-8. This program is separate from our Extended School Year Program (special education). Parents will be contacted directly if that program applies to their children.
If interested in the new Summer Learning Program, please complete the brief form found in the link below by Wednesday, June 3. If you have any questions, please contact program coordinator Elizabeth Smith (esmith@walpole.k12.ma.us).

School Supply Kits
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We hope this email finds you and your family well during these challenging times.
Elm Street PAC is again organizing teacher tailored School Supply Kits for students entering grades 1 - 5. This is not a fundraiser but rather an opportunity to make life a little easier for parents by providing you with one source, hassle-free school supply shopping that's customized for Elm Street School and your child's specific grade. This year the kits will be mailed directly to your home by Friday, August 21st. Each kit is priced according to the grade that your student will be entering in the fall, and each grade level kit contains items that teachers have requested that is appropriate for the grade level. It includes a description of all of the items in the kit as well as the brand names of those items.
We know the school year looked a lot different at the end and we are unsure (but hopeful) of what it may be in the fall. Either way, your children will need supplies for learning. The kits being delivered directly to your home with all the supplies eliminates you having to go into stores searching for items or having to locate them all online.
You can order by going online to www.shopttkits.com and use account number 45479. The last date for ordering online is Monday, June 8th.
If you have questions about this program or need more information, please contact Nicole Perlman at nicoleCperlman@gmail.com
