From Mr. R's Desk
BOBCAT NATION,
In our last session with Seth and Monica, we reviewed the glows and grows from their first visit. We also discussed the next steps and on that note, Seth will be here for a 2-day PLC in January 2022 that will focus on Entry/Exit Procedures (Do Now, Aggressive Monitoring, Exit Tickets, Sense of Urgency).
Here are some QUICK WINS that they are recommending.
- Creating a sense of urgency in the classroom. Ex: Aggressive Monitoring Procedures rolled out for Entry Procedures, and during Gradual Release.
- Opportunities for students to have a “productive struggle” with scaffolding and supports. Ex: Independent Checks for Understanding w/ Aggressive Monitoring, Rubrics for Success, etc.
- Campus Instructional Leadership Team Presence. Ex: Blocking off 2 hours/week to work directly with teachers (Observation & Feedback Coaching Micro-Cycles).
Based off that recommendation, administration will be conducting weekly walkthroughs. Again, we don't want this to be an I-Got-You but rather a way of holding us accountable. Just keep in mind that we are trying to elevate teaching and learning and these are the things that we will be looking for as we visit classrooms.
Walkthrough LOOK-FORS
- Daily Objective - Must be posted and visible to everyone.
- Do-Now - What are students doing as soon as they walk in?
- Time on Task - Are we maximizing learning time? Is there a sense of urgency?
- Exit Ticket - At the end of the period, how do you determine student mastery?
