Things To Take Note
IMPORTANT HEALTH INFO
It is inevitable that children get sick from time to time. These guidelines will help to prevent the spread of illness to other students and staff. Children benefit greatly from the rest and fluids provided at home when they are ill.
"A well child belongs in school and a sick child belongs at home" - Oakland County Health Seminar
- FEVER - Depending on how your child feels he/she may attend school with a temperature less than 100 degrees F. It's recommended that a student should be without a fever for 24 hours (without fever reducing medication) before returning to school.
- STOMACHACHE, VOMITING, DIARRHEA - It is recommended that a child with vomiting and/or diarrhea be kept at home until symptoms have resolved for 24 hours and the child is able to keep in food and liquid.
- INFECTION AND ON ANTIBIOTICS - (i.e. respiratory infection) Children are no longer considered contagious after 24 hours of antibiotics, depending on how your child feels they may return to school.
- RASH - If you child has an unusual rash or it is associated with a fever, keep your child home until you have discussed the rash with your Health Care Provider.
- CONTAGIOUS DISEASE: strep throat, impetigo, bacterial pinkeye, may return after 24 hours of treatment with antibiotic.

CHANGE OF CLOTHES - In elementary school we understand that accidents sometimes happen, even with the older kids. It's very helpful for your child to have a simple change of clothes tucked in their locker "just in case". We find students can easily transition back to class if they have a clean pair of clothes to change in to if needed.
MEDICATIONS- We recognize that there are times a student must take medication at school. If your student is required to take medication during school hours an adult must bring in the medication with its original label and with the Plan of Care form filled out by your student's physician. Plan of Care forms can be found at the link below:

BUILDING SECURITY
At Lakewood Elementary, one of our primary focuses is to provide a safe environment for our staff and families. In order to do this, we need your assistance. Please review the following information and make a point to follow these procedures:
- When you need to pick up your child from school, please report to the school office with picture identification and sign them out. We will call your child from his/her classroom. Our teachers are instructed not to release students unless they have been signed out at the office.
- Children are now familiar with the building, and should not need assistance getting to their classroom. If they do need assistance, a staff member will walk them to class.
- Please do not drop your student off early. There is no adult supervision outside in the morning, children are not permitted inside the building until the first bell rings at 9:03. As children arrive in the morning, student safeties will assist in lining up by grade. The official start of the students’ school day is 9:10 AM. Any children who arrive after that will be considered tardy, and a parent must sign the child in at the office.
- Dismissal is 4:07 PM, parents are asked to wait outside or in the lobby when coming to pick up their students
EARLY DISMISSAL GUIDELINES
If you must pick your student early, please allow yourself plenty of time to come in, sign your student out and wait for he or she to be called to the office. We do not call students out from class before a parent arrives as that takes away from valuable instruction time. Thank you for understanding this policy.
OCTOBER IS NATIONAL BULLYING PREVENTION MONTH
Huron Valley Schools will unite on October 22nd by wearing orange to raise awareness for bullying prevention.
Again this year, Lakewood students are participating in the Positivity Project. Each week, children are learning a new character trait which will lead to a better understanding of themselves and others.
HALLOWEEN
Lakewood will celebrate Halloween on Wednesday, October 31st, **PLEASE NOTE - THIS IS A HALF DAY!!!** Lunch will be served at 11:30, with a school - wide parade at 12:10. Dismissal is at 12:45.
Weather permitting, the parade will take place outside and follow the sidewalk around the building. In the case of inclement weather, the parade will be inside.
Information regarding classroom activities/parties will be communicated by the teachers.
Please remember: No masks, blood themes or weapons. If your child brings an inappropriate costume, he/she will not be allowed to wear the costume at school.

REPORT CARDS / PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES
Parent Teacher Fall Conferences for grades K-5 will occur on Monday, November 5, and Thursday, November 8. During the conferences the parents and teachers will fill out a Student Action Plan. The goal of the plan will be to provide academic and social goals for the student, as well as promote a positive partnership with parents. Some teachers may partially complete the plan prior to the conference while others may fill it in during the conference. Your classroom teacher will arrange his/her individual schedule.
Report cards will be marked three times per school year. They will be sent home electronically unless you ask to have it sent hard copy.
Art, Gym, Music and Lit. Lab report cards will be marked twice per year: December and June.
